📚🗺🐈⬛ Local History Museum in Historic Albina
Description
Built in 1895 in the Historic Albina neighborhood, our home has oft been described as a local history library full of maps and books to help you get the most local flavor possible during your stay in Portland. As a seventh-generation Oregonian, I’ve hosted travelers from all seven continents, and am excited to share this local knowledge with everyone who comes into our home. The space The entire house is shared with me, my partner (Emily), our three cats (Mom, Dad, & Benji) and occasionally other guests, cleaners, and cat caretakers. This includes your own private bedroom, shared full bathroom, kitchen, library, as well as both a front porch and back deck. The bedroom comes with a small desk for those who need a place to work during their stay, as well as an armchair and hammock to relax in. For sleeping arrangements, the private guest room has a queen bed (and hammock) with extra blankets in the closet. If requested PRIOR to booking, a sofa bed may be available in the living room, but it is far from private, and is not recommended for multi-night stays. FREE laundry available in the basement. As a condition of our permit, the City of Portland REQUIRES that we collect the following personal information: guest names, phone number, and home address. Guest access Guests will access the house with a smart lock using their own personal code. If any luggage drop-off or flexibility with check-in is needed (outside of 2–9 pm), guests are required to arrange prior to check-in. Regardless of check-in hours, please provide us with a rough ETA so that we can best accommodate your arrival. Early check-in prior to 2 pm may be available, but not guaranteed, depending on prior guests. If you need to check in AFTER midnight, please send an INQUIRY for prior night to confirm host availability, as late check-in is NOT guaranteed. Check-out past 11 am requires prior approval, depending on future guest and cleaner schedules. During your stay I come from a background of over a decade of CouchSurfing, and enjoy hosting guests for social and cultural exchange. I have a vast local history library, not to mention an entire shelf of board games, and am more than happy to tell you plenty of stories of local interest over a drink or two. My partner and I are both fully vaccinated and boosted and kindly request the same of all guests. If we’re on vacation, it’s entirely possible that you may have the rest of the house to yourself (save for three cats) for the price of only a room. We have a cat sitter nearby who may stop in to feed and otherwise take care of the cats, unless you’d like to arrange with us to take care of them yourself. As we’ve mentioned, there are three indoor cats living here, and while we do our best to limit their time in the guest room, our home may not be the best location for people with severe cat allergies. While the house is professionally cleaned on a regular basis, lingering cat odors may persist. Please let us know if you have any questions or concerns about sharing space with us and our three cats. Other things to note Please remember that like many other homes built in 1895, we do not have central air conditioning. The guest room is the coolest room in the house, and fans are available if requested. Being an older house, there are also several sets of stairs. From the sidewalk, it is 7 steps up to the front door and main level. From the main level, which includes the bathroom, it is 5 steps down the the guest room. Please be aware that small ants are common in older homes in Portland like ours, and are completely harmless. While we have ant traps in place to handle them, they are still attracted to food. For this reason, do not bring ANY food into the bedroom. Please store ALL food in the kitchen, ideally in the fridge or airtight container. We have three adorable and friendly cats, and while all efforts are taken to ensure the house is clean, there may be cat hair, odors, and other messes on occasion. If you encounter any mess that one of the cats has made, please let us know, and we’ll clean it up as soon as possible. We do our best to keep the cats out of the guest room when unoccupied, but you are more than welcome to leave the door open for them if you’d enjoy their company. NEVER let the cats outside under any circumstances. Lastly, while we are flexible to accommodate needs such as early check-in, prices and fees are FIRM and non-negotiable. We strive to compensate our cleaners fairly and pay all required taxes and therefore cannot waive fees and taxes. All inquiries regarding prices and fees will be politely declined and we are unable to accommodate guests with a pattern of negative or suspicious reviews. This is a small, older house with a single bathroom, best suited for solo travelers and considerate couples. In order to provide lower accommodation costs for single guests, we have lowered our nightly rates along with a fee for second guests. Third guests cannot legally be accommodated. Third-party bookings (bookings for someone else) are not allowed; as a violation of Airbnb Terms of Service, such bookings may be subject to cancellation without refund. You may notice a separate 10% community fee while booking, which is set aside for donation to local community organizations and indigenous groups. Registration Details 19-206269-000-00-HO
