Casa Pedras: Nature and comfort close to the beach

Casa das Pedras is 1 of 14 independent houses on the stunning 60 hectares estate Monte West Coast, located in a valley only 5 km from the beach! Access to the estate's swimming pool. The space Located in a beautiful valley only 6 km away from the Odeceixe Beach. The house Casa das Pedras was restored in 2017 using traditional methods combined with modern comfort. The walls are up to 60 cm thick and almost all of them are original. It's an independent house with one bedroom with a double bed (160x200 cm), open space living room/ kitchenette and bathroom with a big shower. By the entrance is a patio with stone walls on two sides, which makes it a perfect place for catching sun. There is also a sunshade which covers approximately half of the patio and under it is a table and chairs. The house has several big windows with view towards the meadow and valley in front. Below you can also see part of Casa do Porto, one of our other houses. We've used traditional materials such as hydraulic mosaic tiles in the bathroom and in the kitchenette, and rustic terracotta tiles on the floor of the entire house. There is also a fireplace which you can use during the winter. Never needed in the summer though! A baby cot can most likely be provided if asked for in advance. There's no washing machine in the house but if you need to wash clothes the housekeepers can do this for you for a small fee per load. The biggest house is 311 m2 with 3 suites and the smallest just above 20 m2, please contact me if you wish to receive information on all of them! Here used to be a farm with a water mill and houses for several families, locals know it as Moinho (water mill) Aboboreira. The river Seixe passes in the middle of the estate, then in front of the town Odeceixe and reaches the ocean 5 km downstream from us, at the outstanding Odeceixe beach (voted one of the Seven Wonders in Portugal). A heated outdoor swimming-pool with a big sun-deck is at the disposal of all of our guests. It is located on the other side of the river, up the hill which you see from Casa do Porto. You reach it by crossing the river on a rope and wood bridge and then walking up the hill on the other side. The walk takes about 5 minutes and the path is beautiful. From the pool you have a magnificent view of our part of the valley. Twice a week free yoga lessons are given on the estate, just let us know if you want to join! We have a canoe, a Stand Up Paddle and mountainbikes. Feel free to use any of them whenever you please. Close to your house are the farm's animals, among which you will find for example goats, sheep, chicken, dogs and a cat. Nature and its recovery: In august 2023 there was a big wildfire in the area. Fortunately none of our houses, main infrastructure nor recreational spaces were affected. We stayed closed for some months to give nature time to recover on the parts of the estate that were affected. Thankfully this autumn, winter and now spring, have brought a lot of well needed rain (the most in the last decade!) and accordingly nature is responding amazingly well! We’re thrilled at the progress of nature, and excited to see its evolution in the times to come. The estate is in a protected area, only 3 km from the Southwest Alentejo and Vicentine Coast Natural Park. Driving inland from Monte West Coast you reach the mountains Serra de Monchique. You easily reach Monte West Coast by turning towards Zambujeira de Baixo on the southern (Odeceixe) side of the Odeceixe bridge. This is, you make a right-turn just before the bridge if you are coming from the South, or a left-turn just after the bridge if you are coming from the North. The road then follows the river upstream for little over 3 km (of which half is asphalt and the other half a dirt road in good conditions) and you have reached your destination. You will see three white houses on your left, Casa do Porto is the one below to the left. Next to the road, in front of the whitewashed wall, is where you can park your car.
