Hemlock Hideaway-Rustic Cabin on the Grand River
This primitive cabin nestled in the woods overlooking the Grand River is a nature-lover's paradise! Come canoe, fish, experience wine country, or unplug and just get away from it all. Please note: There is no running water or electricity at the site, but the cabin is generator-ready and there is an outhouse. See below for more details. The space Our cabin is one room with a small loft above with two twin bunks. The loft is close to the ceiling and is perfect for sleeping, but does lack the space for sitting or standing up. In addition, if you are much over 6 feet tall, you might find the length a bit cramped. We do have a futon for guests who prefer not to use the bunks. The cabin does have a wood burning stove for heat and simple cooking, however there is no running water or electricity. That being said, the building is wired and has plugs and outlets and is generator-ready, if you wish. You provide your own generator and fuel. We provide sheets, comforters, and pillows for the two twin bunks, flashlights, a fire ring with cooking grate, charcoal grill (you provide the charcoal), access to firewood, and an outhouse with toilet paper. Our 1/4 mile of Grand River frontage can be accessed right outside the cabin door via a quick hike down the steep hillside. - this isn't for everyone. If hiking isn't preferred, then a quick two-minute drive will take you to the Harpersfield Covered Bridge Metropark - a favorite of local fishermen. Bigger groups with tents are welcome, but will need to bring all supplies beyond what we provide for 2 guests. Guest access The entire cabin and the woods surrounding it are exclusively yours during your stay. It's very secluded and private. Other things to note - Children and friendly pets are welcome, however pets MUST be house broken in order to stay inside the cabin. Please note that we have 2 outside cats, a too-friendly chocolate lab, and too many free-range chickens. - The hillsides surrounding the site are steep in places and might make some parents of small children nervous. - The drive back to the cabin has a good base, but can get muddy during wet weather. Four-wheel drive is not necessary, but your vehicle may leave less clean than when you arrived :) -Kitchen and cooking utensils are not provided. -The cabin is stocked with sheets, pillows, and a basic comforter for both twin bunks and a fitted sheet for the futon, but during cooler weather, it would be wise to bring a warm sleeping bag. If you plan to use the futon as a bed, you will need to supply your own bedding.
