Our 2 bedroom, 1 bathroom quaint craftsman home is in downtown Urbana. The home has been restored to the era of when Roger Ebert lived there — according to details in chapter 1 of his autobiography, “Life Itself.” We're a 12-minute drive to downtown Champaign + a 5 minute drive to the U of I campus. We're happy to host families, too! Find a Mid Century Modern style complete with books written by Ebert; his school yearbooks from Urbana High; + more Illini and Urbana-centric nostalgia. The space: If you are traveling with children or infants — we have toys; a Pack 'N Play; a high chair; utensils; and other necessities for the littles when on the road. Just please let us know in advance + we can bring over everything! (Pack 'N Play is already stored at our house.) The home has all original hardwood flooring; a wood-burning fireplace; quaint backyard; washer + dryer; a utensil + cooking stocked kitchen; popcorn machine; 1 bathroom; a long driveway for off-street parking and parking available directly on the street on the side of the house; a front patio; and we are kid-friendly. The house is all on one floor — there are only 4 steps up to the front door. Home: The house is situated directly off Vine Street in Urbana. But without much street noise. We are set up with fast WiFi and a television ready for streaming videos + music. You can use our Netflix account to find some of Roger Ebert's favorite films. The photos are pretty much in the order in which our house flows — so, please take a look. Bedroom #1: Two Twin sized beds with brand new Leesa mattresses that can be pushed together to make 1 King sized bed with an additional foam mattress top pad that we have stored in the closet. Bedroom #2: One brand new, Queen sized Serta Beautyrest mattress on a metal frame bed with nightstands and lamps. Bathroom: Deep, cast iron bathtub — we also provide lavender body wash, and a variety of shampoos and conditioners. Shower with a new Moen rain spray shower head and additional handheld shower sprayer; help yourself to our medicine cabinet fully stocked with essentials you might need during your stay (i.e. toothpaste, cotton balls, full First Aid kit, and ear swabs); sink; and toilet. Kitchen: Updated Kohler sink + faucet; original kitchen cabinetry from when Roger Ebert lived there; popcorn machine; pots + pans; Pyrex; cooking utensils; brand new Hotpoint gas oven; + vintage General Electric fridge from the 1950s. Living room: 65" Vizio TV ready to go with Netflix; Illini nostalgia vintage books that Roger Ebert loved + wrote; Champaign-Urbana centric reading material; and a brand new Queen sized sleeper sofa from West Elm. Guest access: If you book the house, the entire place is yours to use. The basement is raw and unfinished — but you can use the washer + dryer if you'd like. Our garage will not be accessible. We have a long driveway with video surveillance where you can park your car. There is easily room for 2 cars in the drive. Street parking is also available. The streets are a quiet, leafy neighborhood that is very walkable and peaceful, close to both the University of Illinois campus and just a few blocks from the heart of Downtown Urbana. We are a five-minute walk from Market at the Square and numerous shops and restaurants. The Market takes place every Saturday, 7 AM to noon, from May through October. Find fresh produce, food trucks, and handcrafted wares. 15-minute walk to the historic Carle Park and Blair Park. Minutes to Carle Hospital. A five-minute drive will get you to The Quad, the heart of the UIUC campus. Two nearby bus stops at Vine & Washington Streets AND Urbana Middle School provide MTD bus routes served by: 5, 6, 7, 8, 10, and 50. No parties or events at the house will be tolerated. Will result in the immediate cancellation of your stay. Guests must be over the age of 21. If you stay longer than 7 nights, there is a cleaning fee of $50 for each additional week. Our hired staff bills us more when they cannot clean weekly. For guests who depart AFTER the set 10am checkout, an additional $100 fee will be charged. Our hired cleaning staff is on paid on a schedule and we are billed more if they cannot access the space at the proper times. We have a strict policy against indoor smoking of any kind and NO pets. Smoking on the front porch or back patio is fine. We just ask that you keep the cigarette butts in a container and nowhere else. Smoking inside the house will result in a $250 additional charge.
