The space “Holy Mackerel” is a 100-year-old church situated on the banks of the beautiful Candlagan Creek. The church was built in 1915 and has been transformed into a unique and comfortable coastal retreat. It is well situated as a base to explore the stunning South Coast of NSW. Locally, you can take a short walk or canoe paddle to Broulee’s beautiful swimming and surf beaches. The Mossy Café is a short stroll away, and there you can enjoy amazing coffee, great food and the relaxed atmosphere. A walk along the Tomaga River to the Mossy Point headland gives you the opportunity to observe local wildlife and breathtaking views of the ocean. “Holy Mackerel” retains many of the building’s original features such as the arched windows, ironbark floors, lining boards and the high vaulted ceilings. The open plan living area is spacious and light and has been styled with an eclectic mix of vintage and coastal décor, with works by local artists Greg McKay, Peter Williams, Gillian Wilde and Naomi Lewis adorning the walls. A TV, books and games are provided for your enjoyment. Reverse cycle air-conditioning keeps you cool in summer while a magnificent slow combustion fire offers warmth through the cooler months. The kitchen is well equipped and includes a conventional oven, gas cooktop, microwave, coffee machine and the dining table comfortably seats 8 people. A spiral staircase takes you upstairs to the master bedroom and the second bedroom. Both rooms offer stunning views of the Australian bush and the Candlagan Creek. The recently renovated spacious bathroom features a single shower, a single vanity and a large spa bath which is the ultimate place to unwind at the end of the day. A front-loading washing machine, dryer and second fridge are located in the laundry. French doors open onto a large wooden deck overlooking the garden. Here you'll find a lounge style outdoor setting, a dining table, a day bed and the gas BBQ. This area is great for relaxation or entertaining and it is the perfect place to observe the large variety of native birds that visit the garden each day. Canoes are also provided so that you can explore the tranquil waters of the Candlagan Creek, just beyond the back gate of the property.
