Home in Sintra

An incredibly simple and beautiful room in an old rustic farm house with private entrance and a fire-stove! Located in an organic farm and a sustainability activity centre with natural buildings, farm animals and organic gardens. Our guests leave saying "a really nice different experience and great project" because it's more than a place to be hosted, "it's unique". You can taste fresh veggies and herbs from our garden and baked bread. The space This space is about two rooms connected, one room with a double bed and the other one, for one kid until 16 years. The room is private, but bathroom is shared with the other guest, there is two toilets in the house. The kitchen which only has a microwave to heat some food is also shared. We are a collective of people united to build and live a non-formal education center for sustainability. Since 2012, we already built a multi-sectoral project with many areas of intervention such as: agriculture, forestry, carpentry, animal management, seed and plant nursery, eco-construction, cider and homemade beer production and many other activities for visitors and outside students. The entire project is typically country life, and the main farmhouse was built by an antiquarian. The main farmhouse has many old rustic objects (wood and stone), together with the gardens, everything creates an incredible way of experience something different. The place is near the ocean so if you have your own car or bike you can go to that beautiful landscapes very easily (5 min car, 10 min bike, 30 min walking). You can easily go to Sintra Village cultural center. By car is around 10 to 15 min (depends the place) and there are few buses during the day from Janas to Sintra. Guest access You can visit the whole project, the natural buildings outside, the permaculture and medicinal gardens, the tree nursery,and the animals. In the main house you can use the entrances, the glass veranda, the big stone table outside, the common saloon with sofas, a little library and a magic big fireplace heater and the toilet. Free wi-fi in all the places. Part of our project is our Cooperative in Janas, where you can have the brunch or buy local veggies, bread , wine or beer. We have a free car parking on the property. As we said on the descriptions, the toilet&bathroom is shared by everyone, we have one for guests and another for the living&volunteering team so we can assure some separation. During your stay While you are here, you can meet a team of residents and volunteers, building and developing the sustainability learning center. Usually we are a team of 9 living permanently, plus the worldwide and nacional helpers that come for volunteering seasons. We are fluent in Portuguese, English, Spanish. There will be always someone to support you, but we are living separtely from the guest and most of the time we are working to make sure the land, animals, and humans are having a good time:) Other things to note We have farm animals (outside in indicated shelters) and also domestic cats and a dog. The cats used to live inside the house, please keep your doors looked so that they don't enter the rooms. All the animals are friendly. The place is suitable for children. For the very little ones we ask that parents stay besides them when they are playing around the farm. We have wireless internet in the house.
