We're inside a lovely gated campground community with full amenities @ the Club House: Wi-Fi, pool, fishing n crabbing, boat ramp, laundry, and bath houses. The Bug-a-Boo is a lovely single dwelling home. It is ADA handicap accessible. There's an outdoor fire pit and space for camping. We are 20 miles from Chincoteague National Wildlife Refuge with miles of protected beaches. This is a peaceful place for soul searching & social distancing. We are also 42 mi from Assateague Is. Nat. Seashore. The space The Bug-a-Boo sits on several lots that are perfect for camping with amenities of this gated community available to you, such as the pool, club house, restaurant, laundry and general store. There is a fishing peer and boat launch. Perfect place to see the sunset. Dog should be leashed. For open fires, please make inquires to the guard house about any restrictions. The History of The Bug a Boo Our family’s Airbnb, lovingly named The Bug a Boo, carries a history that stretches back more than five decades. The story begins in 1973, when the property was first purchased by Jerry and Myrtle Sullivan, as a simple retreat in Chincoteague Bay Trails End Campground. In those early years, the setup was modest: a motor home parked on the lot and, soon after, they built a cedar lined screen room, to connect to it. That screen room quickly became the heart of the space-a breezy, open gathering spot where family members gathered inside to listen to organ music, play games, and escape the onslaught of the mosquitos who once ruled the land. Our parents ‘booed those bugs’, thus naming it Bug-a-boo! As our family grew, so did the meaning of the property. We are a family of ten siblings, now joined by many grands and great grands, and this place became our anchor — the one spot where everyone could return, no matter how far life carried us. Since 1990, we continue to gather here on Columbus Day weekend, mostly tent camping, for our family reunion and our beloved Pasty Cook Off, a tradition that blends our heritage, our humor, and our love of being together. The screen room, once just a practical addition, became the backdrop for decades of laughter, storytelling, and friendly competition. In 2009, the property entered a new chapter. Wanting to preserve its spirit while making it more comfortable for our growing family, we built an addition connected to the original screen room. This expansion included a full kitchen, a spacious great room, and a full bathroom — transforming the space from a rustic hideaway into a warm, fully equipped home. The great room became a new gathering place, echoing the role the screen room had played for so many years. We still preferred the outdoors, with the pesty mosquitoes better managed, we held most of the activities surrounding the fire pit and among the numerous tent and campground spaces. Canopy poles support a huge tarp and surround the numerous picnic tables, in the event of rain. Then, in 2021, we opened a new chapter once again by officially launching our Airbnb rental, The Bug a Boo. What began as a family retreat evolved into a place we could share with others — a home filled with history, comfort, and the welcoming spirit that has defined it since 1973. Guests may not know the full story when they arrive, but they feel it: the care in every detail, the warmth of a space shaped by generations, and the joy of a home that has hosted countless reunions, cook offs, and memories. Our Family Tree that spans an entire living room wall pays homage to the evidence of being an inclusive family, filled with love. Today, The Bug a Boo continues to serve its original purpose — a place for rest, connection, and simple enjoyment — now shared with visitors who become part of its ongoing story. Welcome! Guest access Once your reservations are confirmed, you will be given information on access to the gated community and to the Bug-a-Boo. Laundry is within the community but not on-site at the Bug-a-Boo. Other things to note Pets (cats or dogs) are welcome. When in the campground they need to be leashed. Note that Assateague National Wildlife Refuge (20 miles from the Bug-a-Boo) does not allow pets on the island. But, Assateague Island National Seashore (60 min from the Bug-a-Boo) does allow pets. Both are great places to visit. Up to 3 pets are welcome at $20.00 per pet per day. The price on your reservation may need to be adjusted by the resolution center. We have sheets for you to cover the couches and bed if your pet is a climber, and we ask that you pick up after your pet in the yard.
