Guest suite in Cheverly
Description
Cozy, private suite in older home in Cheverly, quiet neighborhood just outside DC. Located on 2nd floor, private entrance, separate from family. Basic suite has 2 private BR with queen beds and workspace, full BA, kitchenette. Wireless internet, Roku TV, Keurig, micro, conduction hotplate, toaster oven, rice cooker, hotpot. No oven. Off-street parking. 10-minute walk to Metro. Easy access to FedEx Field, major highways. The space The house has a relatively small footprint on a large, corner lot shaded by mature trees. However, the interior layout uses the space very well. We have reworked the second floor to provide a 2 BR, 1 BA suite with a galley/kitchenette with a sofa and flat screen (Roku TV) for relaxing. In our experience, the space is comfortable for a MAX of 4 people (who know each other). We list 3 as the limit, but will extend after we talk to make sure you're comfortable with the tighter arrangement. We want you to experience a good "fit" between your needs and the accommodations we are able to provide. Read on. The guest space has a cozy and snug feel with original hardwood flooring and the sloping ceilings that characterize story-and-a-half dwellings. (See Images). The town historian used to live across the street and he told me that a baby, a little girl, was born in the blue bedroom in the 1930's. That bedroom is the larger of the two and has a queen bed, two work spaces, and a large closet with storage for both clothing and luggage. It also has a window bay that provides a view of the original Vermont slate roof and the huge sweet gum tree growing on the north side of the house. The smaller bedroom also has a queen bed, one desk, a closet for clothes (with an interesting -- we think --built-in shoe rack), and an under-the-eaves closet for storing luggage. Holiday decorations are also stored there, but there should be enough room. There is one bathroom with enclosed shower and original, black and white spiral mosaic tile floor. Towels are provided as needed. We also stock common items such as shampoo, conditioner, and body wash and, on request, are prepared to provide guests with items such as toothbrushes that they may have forgotten. We converted the third bedroom into a galley (kitchenette) with a sitting area where guests can relax together. We provide you coffee/tea, creamer, sweetener, and breakfast bars. We feed guests like we feed our family: plant-based, mostly organic, easy on the sugar. We also provide bottled water to make your first day as hassle-free as possible while you settle in. All necessities for light housekeeping during your stay with us are provided, including microwaveable dishes, utensils, paper products, cleaners, and an iron and ironing board. The galley should have all that you need for light food prep, but note it is NOT a full kitchen: no range, oven, disposal or dishwasher. It does provide a sink, fridge/freezer, toaster oven, microwave, conduction hot plate and appropriate cookware for it, rice maker, Keurig, and hot pot. This room also has a sofa that converts to a bed. Linen for it and extra pillows are in the closet on the landing. The room also has a breakfast area and coffee table. The wall-mounted Roku TV has a connected hub to make it easy for guests to hook up their devices for display on the Roku if desired. Since COVID-19, guest and host spaces are completely separate, including separate entrances. This way, you have confidence that only people in your group are touching surfaces (including door knobs) during your stay. We are quiet folks , but we both live and have our office/work space in the Cheverly house, so you may hear us moving around in the family part of the house, running water etc. We expect to hear similar "living noise" from you. Our environment doesn't work for parties or gatherings with lots of people coming and going. Our most usual guests are family members of our Cheverly neighbors where there wasn't enough space or privacy in the families' own homes, students doing rotations at UM PG Hospital Center or outpatient sites, and folks in town to enjoy DC or sports events at FedEx Field. If you have any questions please feel free to reach out. The Airbnb app is really good for that. It pings distinctively on our phones. Guest access Cheverly is a green "island" bounded by Rt. 202 on the north, Rt.295 (the Baltimore-Washington Parkway) on the west; and Rt 50 on the east. Easy highway access is one of the best things about Cheverly. Rt. 202 gets you out to FedEx field in about 10 minutes. Cheverly has its own station on the DC Metro Orange Line. It's a half mile from our place down to the Metro. There is a moderate hill, so the walk to is easier than the walk from, slightly. There is parking at the Metro, as well as a bus you can pick up in our block to take you down if walking doesn't seem like a good idea. You have off-street parking at our place. Free. There is space for two small cars. Street parking is also free and generally not a problem. We posted some local information here on Airbnb and there is a binder on the coffee table in the galley with more information on places to eat, flyers from local take-out/delivery etc. Other things to note Work on the house and yard is on-going. Reconstruction on the Vermont slate walkway, characteristic of Cheverly, was recently completed by a local artist and craftsman. We have made a lot of progress with the landscaping, but it's a work in progress . We converted a bedroom to make a kitchenette (the galley) in 2017 and we just redid the bathroom walls, installed a new sink and vanity and an exhaust fan in the spring of 2025. The tub and toilet are original. We are EXTREMELY diligent about cleaning, but new appliance sparkle is hard to manufacture and the tub's porcelain is scratched after 80 years.
