Nymboida River Black Mountain Ant Shack 4/AWD Only

Welcome to Black Mountain! Relax in beauty and tranquility. `Black Mountain’ is a conservation property bordering Nymboida River and Nymboi-Binderay National Park on Gambaynggir country. Enjoy the pristine river; signed walking trails through diverse terrain across the property; starry night skies and campfires. The `Shack' has everything you need for a night or a week `Unplugged’! The space The 'Shack' is cosy, quaint and mostly recycled. A queen bed and bunks accommodate up to four people in the bedroom which adjoins the kitchen and living room. Wide verandas overlook the Nymboida River and rainforest gully. The Shack includes a sofa, dining table, writing desk and a small kitchen with fridge/freezer, 3 ring gas stove, sink and cupboards stocked with all kitchen utensils. Filtered rainwater is provided for drinking. A small gas heater keeps winter chills at bay. Limited solar power provides lighting and cooling fans. Candles, rechargeable lights and ice-filled eskies back-up when required. The outdoor area has an open firepit (firewood supplied), tables, bench seats and chairs. There is a small composting toilet at the rear of the `Shack’. Shared amenities, further up the hill provide a hot shower and additional compositing toilets. Guests are welcome to use free internet which is available at the main house. Because Black Mountain is remote and a long way from shops, breakfast is not included. Please be sure to shop before you arrive! Eagles Nest, Myrtle Terrace, Platypus Leap and (Spangled) Drongo Dell are four campsites nearby. These areas can also be booked through Hipcamp. Guest access Two wheel drive access to Black Mountain is via Armidale Road and includes the final 14 kilometres of Council maintained dirt roads. Four/All wheel drive access to the property is via Glenreagh and Lowanna on State Forest roads which are currently in `reasonable' condition - detailed directions available on booking. The Ant Shack is approximately 800 meters from the property gate, down a steep All WD/4WD gravel driveway. By prior arrangement, I can usually provide 4 wheel drive transport from Black Mountain gate down to the Ant Shack. The `Ant shack' will be open on your arrival with the key in the door but please call in at the house on your way through so that I can help you find your way. Other things to note This is a beautiful, remote conservation area. We protect all wildlife including the endangered Eastern Cod. We do not accommodate domestic animals or allow fishing, not even `catch and release'. In season, rafters and kayakers enter or exit Nymboida river at Black Mountain. Please contact if you would like details for transport, guided tours or equipment hire. There are no shops nearby. You need to prepare in advance to bring all food including breakfast and other necessities for the length of your stay. North Coast NSW has immense diversity of flora and fauna including those less welcome: ticks, leeches, goannas, snakes, mosquitoes and cicadas. Registration details PID-STRA-28432
