Fully appointed kitchen, espresso machines, heating/aircon, Netflix, washing machine/dryers, and immaculately clean. Walking distance to the CBD, 12km to airport. Free WiFi, 24-hr keypad check-in. The space Cataract Gorge Retreat is the closest house to the Cataract Gorge Reserve. The front door is actually closer than some of the carparks for the reserve! We think it is the best location in Launceston and it is a great spot for people watching during the day and wildlife watching at night. This newly renovated home has three-bedrooms in the upstairs house, one bathroom and a full-sized laundry. Downstairs is a seperate, fully renovated one-bedroom apartment with full kitchen, bathroom and European laundry. **Please note, there are three listings for this property on Airbnb and this is the combined three bedroom house and unit underneath. Both the upstairs house and unit underneath can be booked separately ** To access the upstairs section, you will need to use the front steps to enter the house. Upstairs there are two queen rooms and a twin bed room which also houses a full-sized cot. A portacot can be set up in addition in the main bedroom on request. Downstairs in the seperate, fully self-contained apartment there is a giant king-sized bed. A portacot is also available for this space, please let us know if you would like this set up. For all rooms we provide luxury linen/bedding and towels to make your stay comfortable. Both kitchens are newly installed and feature quality appliances as well as espresso machines with inbuilt conical grinder. We provide ethically sourced and locally roasted coffee beans as well as basic tea and coffee supplies, salt pepper, and oil. The kitchens also feature dishwashers, microwave ovens, rice cookers, and sandwich presses. If you can’t be bothered cooking or barista-ing at home then the Basin Café is a stone’s throw away or The Gorge Restaurant is a short stroll through the reserve. We provide a guest information guide with some tips on where to dine and how to get there. We also have a gas barbecue in the private rear undercover patio should you wish to BBQ at home (upstairs only). The house faces north and the living area upstairs is sun-drenched. You can enjoy lounging on the giant modular leather couch which is perfect for hanging out with friends or family, watching Netflix on the large smart TV, or simply reading a book. If you would like a break from screen time, there are board games and some toys to keep the kids entertained. The house (upstairs and down) features NBN WiFi. The downstairs living area also features a comfortable lounge, smart LCD TV and has plenty of space to relax and unwind. The front deck and patio are sunny year-round and feature outdoor seating with views of the reserve bushland and carpark. This is a great place to people-watch during the day as there is a constant stream of cars and people accessing the reserve. At night the street front is very quiet and the front deck is a great place to watch the wildlife. The peacocks nest next door in the bush as well as native wallabies, paddy melons, spotted quolls and tawny frogmouths. The brush-tailed possums often visit the front and back yard at night. Upstairs and down both feature reverse cycle air conditioners (or as we call them in Tassie “heat pumps”) that keep the property cool in summer and cosy warm in winter. All you have to do is push a button and decide how warm or cool you would like the space to be. The upstairs bathroom (with bath) and separate toilet have been recently renovated. Quality soap, shampoo and conditioner are supplied. The laundry has been updated and features new front load washing machine, clothes dryer, and washing powder is supplied. This is where we keep a high-chair, ironing equipment and some basic cleaning amenities should you require. Downstairs the bathroom is also fully renovated and features a shower, toilet, vanity and heated towel rail that keeps our white fluffy towels toasty warm. The washing machine and dryer are within a European laundry cupboard, and we supply the washing powder for your convenience. The downstairs of this house has a large garage which is not available to guests. The floors between the upstairs and down are structural concrete and sound generally does not carry up. Some muffled sound can travel down but this is generally sounds like footsteps and chairs being tucked in rather than voices. There are stairs at the entrance to the upstairs with a door at the top that is lockable for peace of mind for children. The large private fenced back yard (access for the upstairs house only) has been recently landscaped and we have planted it out with bird attracting native plants. We are very excited to watch this space grow and attract even more of the fantastic Tasmanian bird life to this area. Guest access The parking for this house includes room for three cars to park. There is no turning circle in the driveway so you will need to reverse out. If you have more than three cars you can park on the free parking on Basin Road or in the Cataract Gorge Reserve carpark ($6 per 24hrs). Please note that the boom gate for parking in this carpark is closed between 10pm and 6am. There is no room for a trailer or caravan at this house. The free “Tiger bus” stops at the nearby Cataract Gorge Reserve carpark (a few meters away) and is a great way to explore Launceston’s inner city and Inveresk precinct, with the University of Tasmania Stadium (AFL venue) and the Queen Victoria Museum and Art Gallery nearby. The city is a twenty-minute walk, either though the beautiful Cataract Gorge, or via the street/footpath (2.2km). Walking into the city is mostly downhill and an easy walk, although returning involves uphill. We recommend hiring a car for sightseeing around Tassie, however if that is not possible, there are ample taxi and Uber services in Launceston, and taxis are based at the nearby Launceston Airport. Vehicle hire companies are available at the airport and in the city. The renowned Gorge Restaurant and Basin Café are a short walk away. The Trevallyn and Kate Reed mountain bike trails are only a 5 to 10-minute drive. The airport is approximately a 12-minute drive. Registration Details DA0138/2021
