"Sea Glass" is a cheerful, sunny, year-round waterfront cottage with a private beach, air conditioning/heat, and Wi-Fi, on a beautiful, quaint island; a 30-minute ferry ride from the mainland. Prudence Island offers hiking trails, beaches, kayaking, biking, fishing and is filled with opportunities to make wonderful memories! The space SeaGlass is a quiet and peaceful setting overlooking the bay with a lovely porch and oversized sunny deck. Summer is our peak time to be on the island, especially for sports enthusiast however, fall and winter is a delightful time to be on the island as well. The fall colors are beautiful, and in the winter, a snow storm is exquisite overlooking the bay. Cross country skiing (when it snows) or bike riding is invigorating! The open floor plan allows you to visit with family and guests while working in the kitchen, along with enjoying the panoramic view. (Our kitchen is well equipped. You should find most everything you need to cook and prepare your meals.) At night, the Mount Hope Bridge sparkles as a diamond bracelet in the north, and to the south you can see the Newport Bridge. About 85% of the island is under conservation restriction and is available for your pleasure to explore. There are many well maintained trails for hiking, and, several beaches, great for walking and finding shells. Have fun bicycling around the island, kayak in front of the house, or paddle up to the Island store for a cup of coffee and morning newspaper. Potter's Cove is a great place to kayak as well and will take you to the shore of an uninhabited sandy peninsula. Digging clams and quahogs around the island is lots of fun as well. You can enjoy making a tasty chowder! Fishing and walking on the huge T-wharf pier is an experience in itself! Don't miss the Museum at the State Park. The walls inside have wonderful murals depicting water life around the island, painted by one of our island artists. There is also a small Historical Society Museum at the bottom of the hill on Narragansett Avenue with lots of interesting information about the island, including the 1938 hurricane and even a few ghost stories! There is also a small library available, with story time for the children on Tuesday mornings, and two churches to choose for worship, depending on your faith. SO MUCH TO DO!! And we haven't even mentioned Farnham Farm! If you do visit the island, ask around. There are frequently fun events to do while you are on the island. In July you can even pick your own blueberries or purchase some if you prefer. There is a small variety/gift shop on the opposite side of the parking lot from the Ferry. However, the variety shop is limited in supplies so you will want to bring all of your own groceries, drinks and supplies as there are no grocery stores or restaurants on the island. You will be taking a ferry from Bristol Rhode Island to the island. It is a lovely 30 minute ride which is an extra treat for you to enjoy. You will drive your car onto the ferry. If you like you can get out and explore around the boat. At the cottage you will particularly appreciate the north porch with a couch and a table and chairs and provides a place where you are protected from the sun or rain and can still relish being outside near the water. The deck has a large table with chairs with an umbrella and plenty of deck furniture. You will find it bright and sunny during the day, and well shaded in the late afternoon and evening. During the day you can enjoy watching the sailboats and beautiful yachts as they frequently pass by on the bay. The beach can be lite up at night as well, if you would like to have an evening or a midnight swim. Swim on your own private beach or explore several sandy beaches nearby. There is a public dock, very near the Cottage, which is great for diving and cannon balls. We have two moorings suitable for small boats. If you would like more information regarding our cottage or the island, please feel free to ask for our House Manual which gives more information regarding the cottage and the island. Certainly, if you have any questions, concerns or special request, please feel free to get in touch with us anytime. It is our desire that you have a wonderful time during your stay and have everything you need. Guest access You will have the full house to yourself. The king size bed upstairs can be made into two twin size beds which would make three single beds upstairs instead of one king and one single. There is also space in the upstairs bedroom for a fold out mattress for sleeping a child or a crib for an infant. The bathroom upstairs is large and has double sinks. When you make a reservation, please let us know your bed arrangement preference. Please note the house does NOT accommodate more than 4 adults, which would include ages 12 and above. The 1st floor bedroom has a queen bed with a bathroom across the hall. There is plenty of closet space about the house for unpacking your food goods and clothes so that you can feel at home instead of working out of a suitcase. Wi-Fi has a good signal and is reliable for working remote. Please note: No hosting of additional overnight guest at any time, including children. No sleep over parties. Our couches are not to be used as beds. Also, consistent with AirBnb policies, hosting of events or large parties is not permitted. Special needs: There are a couple of low steps to get into the house and one small step to get into the main part of the house. We can provide a transport chair, a shower seat and a commode for anyone with special needs. Please let us know if these would be helpful for your stay. Other things to note You will need to bring all of your own food, drinks, and supplies as there are no restaurants on the island. There is however a small variety store/gift shop located near the ferry landing where you can purchase staples and island gifts. Basic supplies, such as paper towels, toilet paper, and spices are provided at our cottage. The House Manual lists several grocery, convenience, and specialty shops to pick up supplies before catching the ferry. Numerous restaurants are also listed for dining in Bristol. Some restaurants in Bristol will deliver to the ferry for you to pick up on arrival at the island. Bedroom 1, upstairs, has a single bed, along with a king size bed that can be split into two twins, providing the option of three singles upstairs. Bedroom 2, downstairs has one queen size bed. There is space available for a floor mattress upstairs that can be provided for a child. Prior to your visit, please advise if you would prefer the king size bed, or the two singles size beds, and if you would like us to make up the floor mattress for your child or a Pac & Play for a baby/toddler. Also note our beach is rocky and crocs or water shoes are suggested for comfort. There are several sandy beaches nearby if you prefer. Our favorite time to swim is at high tide, then I don't have to wear water shoes. Also very important: at low tide our beach drops off quickly and is well over your head. No matter what the tide, it is still good swimming. We have a raft to swim out to and dive from as well. Please be advised that state regulations require kayakers to WEAR approved personal floatation devices at all times. Be sure to bring your tick and mosquito spray if you would like to walk the trails. We also have a booster chair to attach to a dining chair for a baby or toddler, gates, books and some toys for little ones. We can supply a wheelchair, shower chair, walker and commode for anyone with limited mobility. We have installed outdoor security cameras at the shed. One is placed on the north end of the shed sighting the main door and the back yard entrance towards the porch. The other covers the view from the parking area. A recent addition is an outdoor shower with hot and cold water, convenient for rinsing off after a day at the beach. Separately (because we cannot find a place to post it under the AirBnb safety features), we are pleased to advise our compliance with recent Rhode Island regulations on Anti-Human Trafficking as applicable for short-term rentals.
