Description
A rural bolthole in a converted barn - comfort and style with just a nod to luxury. Part of a small cluster of outbuildings behind our home, surrounded by 14 acres of fields. Designed for year round use with lovely outside spaces for summer and a cosy interior and wood-burning stove for colder months. Totally self-contained, secluded, and away from the coastal crowds, but just 10 mins Bridport & beach. Attention to every detail to give you everything you want, but nothing you don't need. The space The Cider House is one of 3 outbuildings at the rear of our family home. It is close to our main house so to give privacy to our guests it has been designed to be totally self-contained and as private as possible and we generally use a separate drive to the main house. We work locally and / or from home so are around and aim to be as helpful as possible, but would always assume that guests would prefer privacy and to be left to themselves. Perfect for couples with or without kids / babies or anyone looking for a peaceful and isolated escape. Wifi / remote working: The Cider House has a dedicated internet connection separate to our own - speeds are good and the connection stable - it works well for Zoom calls / streaming TV etc and we regularly use the space ourselves for work if we don't have guests in there. Sleeping: Main bedroom with king-size bed and super comfy mattress. Fitted wardrobe and under-bed storage drawers. Additional mezzanine bedroom above the main living space offering either 1 super-king bed or 2 single beds. Again with super comfy mattress. Chest of drawers for storage. The mezzanine is accessed via a fixed ladder (as shown in the photos) which requires a reasonable level of mobility for access. Sleeping arrangements can be worked out however is most suitable for you...however if you are visiting with kids our thinking in setting the place up was that younger kids might be best in the main bedroom allowing earlier nights for them and freeing up the living space and mezzanine for parents. Older kids can use the mezzanine giving parents the main bedroom. Please note that the mezzanine is accessed via a "fixed ladder" - this has wide flat treads like stairs and grab rails but is steep and we recommend that it is not used by children under 7. We have a teenage daughter available for babysitting...! Living space: The main living space has a fully equipped kitchen, dining area and plenty of comfy seating. The kitchen has a gas hob, electric fan oven and we have tried to include all the items which we often find missing or of poor quality when we stay away ourselves. Decent pans, sharp kitchen knives, weighing scales and a well stocked drawer of kitchen utensils. There is a selection of board games, TV and DVD player, DAB radio with Bluetooth connection, a small selection of books and plenty of information on the local area including an OS Map which you are welcome to borrow for walks and exploring. Bathroom: The bathroom has a large flat-bottomed bath with shower, plenty of fluffy towels, a bar of nice soap and Faith in Nature shampoo and conditioner. Please note: the bathroom is only accessible via the bedroom so guests using the mezzanine for sleeping will need to go via the bedroom to access the bathroom. Outside: There is your own parking area with space for 2 cars and a private garden area with small lawn, large gravelled area, plenty of outdoor seating and a BBQ available. The utility room is separate from the main building and has a freezer, washing machine, tumble dryer, plenty of space for hanging outdoor clothes and room for at least 2 bikes. We have 14 acres of fields surrounding the house which you are welcome to explore providing that they aren't being used for livestock. Local area: This area is a haven for food fans, great for walking, cycling and coastal activities. We are 4 miles from the thriving, creative, and vibrant market town of Bridport. This is next to West Bay with access to The Jurassic Coast, the only natural World Heritage Site in England. West Dorset has a wide spread of local producers and fantastic cafes and restaurants and some hidden gems which we are happy to point you to! The coast and surrounding countryside is perfect for long walks, some incredible cycling (on and off-road) & water sports. We are sadly not served well for public transport so a car (or bike) is needed if you want to explore the local area. There are bus services which roughly follow the coastal towns and our closest train station is Crewkerne which is on the London to Exeter mainline. If visiting by train & bike we may be able to offer luggage pickup from Crewkerne station. Guest access All areas of The Cider House, and the immediate garden area are for the exclusive use of guests. We are happy for guests to use parts of the wider garden areas any surrounding fields that we own (providing that they aren't being used for livestock).
