The Gingerbread House
The Gingerbread House
Description
On the northern edge of the Cotswolds, our 17th-century Grade II listed riverside home (1631) sits in 1.5 acres of private meadow garden beside the River Avon. Full of character... wonky walls, panelled rooms, two inglenook fireplaces and a wood-burning stove... it’s a charming countryside retreat. Perfect for groups. Dogs and children warmly welcome (no extra fee). 🏡 The space As all period properties it's slightly shabby chic, quirky, nothing is straight, there are a few spiders, and the windows don't really fit perfectly! But it's also cosy, comfortable, ideal for groups, and with lots to character. Please note, we're in a quiet lane with a close neighbour and we keep to strict 10pm-8am *quiet hours* (hence not allowing parties). The room layouts have changed a little and are as follows: Family room - King sized bed and two singles (en suite) (Up separate staircase to the others). Map room - Downstairs. Single daybed (toilet next to it) Blue room - King sized bed and single bed Mail room - King sized bed and cot (and priest hole!) Mannequin room - King sized bed (en suite) Nursery - Single bed (fine for an adult too!) Please note that it's not a great property for those with mobility issues as there are lots of different levels and small steps, plus the house is up a little hill from the drive. Oh, we also have a priest hole! Very exciting! Guest access Guests can enjoy the whole house and garden! Other things to note Bring slippers, the old stone floors can be chilly. There are some external security cameras cameras that cover the gate, drive, lawn, front and back doors. I've also had to keep the Aga off due to gas prices, I'm sorry, though right next to it is a double electric oven instead. Please be very careful not to burn down the house with the log burner in the lounge! I don't provide kindling or logs so please bring your own, most local supermarkets or Hampton farm shop or Clive's farm shop nearby has them. There's also a couple of wobbly and slippery steps and paths in the garden that guests should be careful on. We have a fairy garden the little ones might like, check the trees in the lawn nearest the drive.
