Description

The Lake House @ Langford Court Perched on the water's edge and surrounded by flower filled fields in Devon, this private family fishing hut is now available for public bookings for the first time. With a history dating back 1100 years, Langford Court has long been a draw for lovers of history, nature, and wildlife. The current family at Langford have invested more than 20 years rewilding portions of the farm, creating a haven for nature enthusiasts, ramblers, anglers, and twitchers alike. The space Rustic charm and a natural setting create the perfect retreat for couples and small families. The Lake House at Langford Court is a custom creation; hand built by the family with love. It is a tech-free (NO WIFI / NO TV) retreat where guests are encouraged to reconnect with nature. Perfectly sized for up to 2 adults and 2 children; with a full kitchen, bath with shower and soaking tub, and the all important overwater porch perfect for morning coffee, evening meals, and fishing in between. There is a emperor (7 foot) sized bed on the mezzanine above the living room, reached by way of ladder. Two (2.5 foot) twin beds are bunked in a separate bedroom. The bathroom is just up the staircase, above the kitchen. The Lake House is situated on a large farm, and sits waterside on one of our dozen lakes. There are many walks we can recommend which start directly on the farm and there are many species of animal to track and spot. You may wish to bring wellies and weather appropriate clothing to protect from the mud. You are welcome to fish in our ponds but you must catch and release; we require barbless hooks and no keep nets. Our ponds are virgin waters, we are NOT a commercial fishery. Guest access Originally built for the first Sheriff of Devon; the Grade II* estate is listed in the Domesday Book, the first survey of land ordered by William the Conquerer in 1086. Now run as a family farm, Langford Court South is occupied by the fourth generation of the same family. The family have a great love for conservation and nature, having devoted the last 20 years to rewilding parts of the farm. Large swathes of farmland has been fenced off, creating a dedicated conservation area stretching the length of the farm. This ‘Conservation Corridor’ is filled with ponds, marshland, wild grasses and flowers, where all manner of wildlife thrives. Langford boasts breeding barn owls, tawny and little owls, and four species of deer (fallow, red, roe and sika). Eleven ponds are well stocked with fish (common carp, mirror carp, and ghost carp, green and golden tench, and bream) and wildfowl (coots, moorhen, dabchicks, mallard, teal, widgeon, and even nesting tufted duck) along with swans and Canadian geese. Kingfisher are seen on a regular basis. Buzzards and sparrow hawks are frequently spotted and we are very happy to host kestrels and peregrine falcons as well. Other things to note Linens and soft furnishings are not provided. Beds are supplied with fitted bottom sheets only; all other linens, duvets, pillows and towels must be brought by guests. ***The Lake House is not an appropriate abode for self-isolation and is NOT insured or council approved for longer term accommodation. *** We strongly advise anyone booking to ensure you take out travel insurance to protect against any unexpected interruption to your stay. If The Lake House is closed, or is required to close due to government directive, all affected guests will be rebooked to a future date. Records of guest details, name, contact telephone and email will be maintained for a minimum of 90 days. If specifically required, these will be handed over to authorities to assist in track and tracing of who has been in contact with infected individuals who’ve visited our property. Guests are asked not to approach or visit any other properties on the farm (residential or farm related) or in the vicinity of the Lake House.
