The Garden Cottage was formerly a humble garden shed, but, with the help of our resident Tiny House Expert, Mark, we refurbished the interior with a contemporary rustic design aesthetic. The cottage is best described as a studio space, ideal for a writer on retreat or a couple staging for a trip to the springs. The bathroom and shower are separate from Garden Cottage, which is located on the backside of the building. The newly completed bath house structure features a rainfall shower head with natural surroundings and ample space for separate shower and changing areas. The bathroom includes a deep basin wash sink with a custom-made copper faucet. To help curb wasteful water use of traditional toilet facilities, a composting toilet is used. We will gladly give you a quick tutorial on its use and the benefits of composting. If a composting toilet makes you uncomfortable in any way, please do not book the Garden Cottage. Our Tofu House has conventional plumbing for a comparable price. You can explore the grounds and visit with the animals through the fences. Moonrise Farm can be home to a number of 5th wheel and RV campers, tiny house dwellers, and Airbnb guests at any time. For most of the year, it's only home to the host, Maureen, who occupies the farmhouse at the front of the property. The surrounding area is rural but not completely isolated. The farm is 20 miles from Gainesville, 12 miles from downtown Alachua (a quaint but full-service little town), and 7 miles from a country neighborhood - Lake Butler - with all the essentials, including an independent grocery store, a few restaurants, urgent care, and a small hospital.
