This beautiful home is in the center of two of Detroit's coolest and most historic neighborhoods: Indian Village and West Village. You're a five minute walk to the city's best coffee, award-winning restaurants, and iconic architecture. 10 minute drive to downtown. The home is bright and spacious with a living room, dining room, and 3.5 bedrooms all with dreamy mattresses and premium bedding. Full backyard where you can grill, play croquet, or lounge in the garden. Free street parking. We would love to welcome you to our little neighborhood inn, Parker House Detroit! You can read more about us at parkerhousedetroit (dot) com. The four beds all feature premium mattress with crisp cotton sheets, fluffy down comforters, and four great pillows. Specifically, we have a Casper, Tempur-pedic, and Tuft & Needle mattresses. Some Airbnbs skimp on these essentials—not us. Our guests consistently remark that our beds are some of the most comfortable they have ever slept in. We stock the kitchen with the cooking basics as well as coffee and a selection of tea. Groove to your favorite tunes via a vinyl player in the living room that can also function as a bluetooth speaker. There is a TV in the living room and two of the bedrooms. All TVs have Netflix, AppleTV+, HBOMax, and Prime Video. The front bathroom has a tub (no shower), toilet, and sink. The main bathroom has a shower, toilet, and sink. The master suite has a beautiful bay window with a view of the street and desk for working. There is also a small side room (this is the half bedroom) connected to the master suite with a hanging chair and twin-sized bed. Finally, this is a house that was built in 1911, so expectations should be set accordingly. For example, some of the original windows do not open easily, the floor squeaks in places (mostly at the entry staircase), and there are general imperfections that come from age. We expect that guests will agree with us that the home is extremely comfortable and its historic identity is additive to the experience. In the 1980's, I owned a bed & breakfast in Petoskey, a city in northern Michigan, with my mother that was reviewed in national travel journals. It is such a joy to continue the bed & breakfast tradition in the Internet era via Airbnb!! I love hosting guests and introducing visitors to the city of Detroit. I manage this listing with my son, Thane, who owns the home. He is founding a high school that is built on experiential learning, civics, and leadership. All proceeds from your Airbnb stay go towards founding the school: the Planet School. Check out their website: planetschool (dot) org. Guests have private, exclusive access to the entire second floor unit of the house. The second floor has its own exterior entrance and is a completely independent 3.5 bedroom apartment. There is a backyard that is shared with the downstairs apartment (I live here and Airbnb two private rooms). There is also laundry in the basement, which is shared as well and that you are welcome to use. Garage access is not included, but street parking is free in front of the house. We have two Nest security cameras on the front of the house that will be recording 24/7, so if you park in front of the house they will be within view. I live downstairs and am available throughout your stay to answer any questions about the home or Detroit. My son was a contributing author to the Wildsam Field Guide on Detroit and my grandfather, Gus Dorais, was the head coach of the Detroit Lions and the University of Detroit and a city council member, once upon a time, so we have deep roots in this city and know it well. This home is the ideal way to experience Detroit: a neighborhood that is both safe and authentically historic. For breakfast, you can walk half a block north to Sister Pie, an award-winning bakery, or two blocks south to Red Hook Coffee, my favorite coffee spot in the city. For dinner, Marrow is a block away and was a finalist for a James Beard award and there is also a lovely Italian restaurant (Mumma Maria's House). We recommend reservations at both, especially Marrow. There is also an ice cream shop and a neighborhood bar (Two Birds) that are very popular and a block away. One block east is the first block of the three block area called Indian Village, which is on the National Registry of Historic places and includes the first Ford mansion and other amazing examples of several schools of architecture. Across from Red Hook Coffee is a station for renting bicycles from the city's bike share program (MoGo Detroit), allowing you to bike downtown or along the river and return the bike at any other station. There is free street parking on Parker Street and we have two security cameras pointed at the street. While the block is completely inhabited (no abandoned homes) and West Village is generally very safe with watchful and friendly neighbors, street parking anywhere in Detroit comes with inherent risk. I have never had a problem and I have been living in West Village and parking on the streets since 2013. For getting around Detroit, we recommend Lyft and Uber. While these rideshare options mean a rental car is not required for visiting Detroit, the automotive companies have historically lobbied (successfully) for keeping Detroit's public transport options limited. The new Q Line in downtown Detroit enables easy movement up and down Woodward and there is a public bus stop three short blocks south of the house that will take you straight into downtown. My son took it everyday to commute when he worked downtown. —Quiet hours 11pm-7am. Please keep the TV volume and conversation volume low out of respect for your neighbors. —The sofas are not set up for sleeping, so we ask that you only use the beds. —No smoking indoors or on the porches. Smoking is allowed in the backyard only. —No events or parties. We want to be respectful Airbnb hosts within our neighborhood, so we expect the number of people on your reservation to be the maximum number of people in the space. Hosting gatherings leads to more noise and more mess, which disturb our neighbors, so this space is meant for thoughtful overnight accommodation only. My son and I run this apartment and other lofts together via Detroit Space Lab, so your bookings are technically with that LLC.
