Description

**Our calendar isn't always up to date. If you have a specific time you're looking for, feel free to send a message.** Our beloved, art-filled farmhouse is surrounded by 140 acres of open fields, magical forests, and a huge pond for swimming. This is the rare opportunity to be secluded in nature, yet only a 5 minute drive to the charming town of Callicoon. This house isn't renovated. It's great for nature lovers, not those who need modern accommodations. The space The house is down a private driveway and is far from other homes. The house is full of Americana antiques and offers a large, sunny, fully-stocked kitchen with a spectacular view of the pond and a wood-stove for cold nights, 5 bedrooms (including a cat-themed and a dog-themed room), a comfortable living room with a stereo (with old records or plug for your phone), plenty of board games, and a library of books to read. There's a fire pit outside, a picnic table for outdoor meals, a BBQ grill on the porch, a hammock you can hang up, and incredible hikes to be had in all directions with plentiful wildlife to see. You can canoe or swim in the pond. Note that we have a new sofa and our old sofa is on the porch (photos not yet updated). This place is for you if you like stargazing, views, campfires, hiking, picking wild berries or apples, drinking spring-fed water, being secluded in nature, being close to wildlife, and swimming or canoeing in a giant pond. This place is not for you if you need modern renovations, have significant mobility issues, or can't tolerate some bugs and the occasional country mouse. This is an old farmhouse in real nature and it's not for everyone. Also, because it's such a wild area, there are unfortunately ticks. That said, for many people, it's offered a magical and rejuvenating vacation. Please note that there is no garbage pickup. You need to take garbage/recycling with you when you leave (there is a local dump with VERY limited hours). We provide a compost pile for food scraps so that you have less garbage to take. There is not a washer/dryer (there is a laundromat in town). The house was built in the 1880s by the family that farmed here. We think of this land as an animal sanctuary so please NO hunting or firearms allowed. Thanks. Guest access You'll have your own private 2-story house. Downstairs is the bathroom (shower and tub), large kitchen, living room, main bedroom (queen bed), and child's room (single bed). Upstairs are 3 bedrooms: two with full beds, and one with two single beds. You also have private access to the pond and surrounding 140 acres of fields and forests. Other things to note This is an older house, not renovated. We do have WIFI. You'll need to take trash/recycling with you when you leave. (The dump has limited hours). We do have a compost pile. There is no washer/dryer, but there is a laundromat in Callicoon. The house is kept clean, but bugs, dust, and spiderwebs are present sometimes.
