This wonderful old building is listed on the National Register of Historic Places and operated as the District 9 schoolhouse until 1948. Now, this beautiful piece of history is available for you to enjoy! Located in the picturesque West Granby, Connecticut, this little schoolhouse directly abuts hundreds of acres of open space, Granby Land Trust property, and several organic farms. The space Soon after all the one-room schools closed in Granby in the late 1940s, our school was soon converted into a home. Many of the old details remain, like the high ceilings, old New England windows with marvelous wavy glass, and a calm relaxing atmosphere. The owner of this property has roots on Nantucket Island and many of the interior furnishings reflect that same feeling of a shoreline home with a mix of 19th century and a sprinkling of mid-20th century furnishings. Being a professional photographer, the home features some of his original work along with lots of books on art, history, and photography! The old Douglas fir and pine flooring throughout be house bring a wonderfully warm and casual feel to the interior. The walls are all a uniform soft white which make a great palette for the artwork and decor. The first-floor features one large living room as well as a smaller more intimate sitting or reading area. The home has excellent WiFi service so plan to bring your devices. There is a first floor full bath with walk-in shower and a fully equipped kitchen with modern appliances, a center island eating area, and a large table for 8 people. The second floor features two bedrooms; one which includes a lavatory sink. The entry three-season porch is an opportunity for summertime dining, which opens to a large deck and arbor just outside the porch door. You will have access to the main living area which was the old school. The yard is private with a coy pond and fire pit. The patio is great with a wisteria arbor and an outside bar area. Another accessory building has lots of potential for "camping" out etc. The owners retain control of the garage and the storage room which was at one time an antique shop. The house has approximately 1500 square feet of living space. Guest access The entire old schoolhouse, breezeway, yard & patio. All except garage, storage room. Other things to note One garage space may be made available during the winter months but arrangements need to be made with the manager.
