1BR Tamarack Cottage - Okanogan WA (4 mi to Omak)
1BR Tamarack Cottage is a cheerful mini-version of great-grandma's 40s farmhouse shoehorned into a wee depression-era cottage. Small but comfy, with wifi and smart HDTV (antenna/Netflix), hang out inside or explore beautiful north central Washington. Regional attractions are easy jaunts. Grocery store 2 blocks away. Not suitable for children or the physically challenged. Now small pet friendly. Discount and late checkout for 2-day bookings. The space Tamarack is one of my Kokanee Cottages -- the east half of what may be the world's smallest duplex. (Pine Cone is the west half, separate entrances at opposite ends of buidling.) Even though Tamarack is a wee one-bedroom unit, it has everything you need to make your stay in the country a pleasure -- a little kitchen with vintage kitchen queen and apartment-sized range, microwave, crockpot, blender, toaster, wee food processor, espresso machine, and regular coffeemaker. A full-size fridge/freezer guarantees you'll never have to worry about cold drinks. No dishwasher, but a nice porcelain double sink. The classic chrome and yellow Formica kitchen table is a cheery focal point, and a place to roll out cookie dough because counter space is pretty much nonexistent. Watch the smart HDTV (antenna/Netflix) and Blu-ray DVD player from the comfy sofa. The little electric fireplace adds extra coziness in winter. There's AC in the summer, so delicious to come back to a cool space. And beer mugs in the freezer will help you chill out, too! The overflow teacups and teapots from neighboring Nootka Rose Cottage are in the curved glass curio cabinet along with the crystal wine glasses, sip sip. Vintage floral prints and etchings and an awesome tole sconce sweeten up the living room. In the bedroom, a 50s double bed frame (turquoise as found) goes perfectly with the killer mirror and washstand I scored at Nana's Nook just a few miles away. Cheerful patchwork and floral cotton quilts and a lovely 12-inch memory foam mattress will have you snoring in nothing flat. One of my favorite fine art prints (baby ducklings by Carl Brenders) welcomes you when you enter, and a classic landscape offers a restful view when it's time to go to sleep after a glorious day in the country. The two Royal Canadian Mounted Police vintage prints in the cottage are a nod to my Canadian roots. The bathroom has the usual facilities without, actually, a bath (just a shower). And a really big floral print I scored at the Barter Fair for a pittance. You'll feel at home as soon as you walk in to Tamarack Cottage! Guest access You have access to Tamarack Cottage (unit 1) and the shed where the BBQ grills and camping/recreational equipment are stored. The yards between the cottages are shared spaces. There may or may not be guests (or me!) in the other Kokanee Cottages -- 1 BR Pine Cone (unit 2, the other half of the duplex), and Nootka Rose (unit 4), and 2BR small pet-friendly Cottonwood (unit 3) and Saskatoon (unit 5). Lots of off-street parking in the gravel lot that fronts the cottages. Other things to note COVID 19 PROTOCOL: At Kokanee Cottages, we clean to AirBnB's Covid 19 standards and have a 48-hour buffer between bookings. (If you want to book sooner you can do so at your own risk - send a request.) The cottages provide much better isolation than a large hotel with many guests and staff. No physical contact with host necessary (key are in a coded lockbox). Close to grocery store and (worst case) hospital. Wifi for teleworking. STAY SAFER IN A CUTE COUNTRY COTTAGE. WINTER ALERT: As is typical in very old houses with unheated crawl spaces, if the weather gets below 27 degrees, all the water faucets need to dribble to prevent damage from pipes freezing. Guests booking during winter months MUST be willing to run the faucets if there is a cold snap during their stay. -- Cottonwood hosts the wifi modem for Tamrack, Pine Cone, and Nootka Rose Cottages. (There is a signal booster in Pine Cone.) There is another modem in Saskatoon Cottage. -- Garbage pickup is Thursday morning. -- There is no mail service to the cottages, but you can have mail sent to you c/o Kokanee Cottages, PO Box 1274, Okanogan, WA 98840. -- There is a weekly cleaning for extended-stay guests (1 to 3 months).
