Monkton House - 15th Century Castle near Edinburgh

Monkton House was built by the monks of Newbattle Abbey nearly 600 years ago and stands in 2 acres of private grounds. Three of the bedrooms have four poster beds, and there are many unusual features. There are gun loops and arrow slits, one of the living rooms is hand painted in maximalist chinoiserie, and there is even a secret room. You can imagine yourself in another time when staying here. Please note that Monkton House is described as rustic rather than luxury due to its age! The space Amenities include a games room, cinema and library. Nearby there is the historic City of Edinburgh, reachable in only a few minutes by train or bus, the beautiful county of East Lothian with beaches, countryside walks and numerous world famous golf courses. Guest access The whole property is available for guests' exclusive use. Other things to note Please note that there are uneven steps and surfaces, low doorways, and other quirks/hazards associated with nearly 600 year old buildings. This applies to the house, the cottage and the grounds. Monkton House is not a hotel, but a self-catering holiday home.
