Description

Tucked among the yacht masts and trees, this quirky hideaway is one for adventurers, wanderers and romantics in search of a cosy offbeat bolthole with all the facilities of Lymington’s boaty resort on the doorstep. The space The Boat Shed is the yachtie equivalent of a shepherd’s hut. It has a cool modern vibe. Simple, functional and with lots of exposed wood. Located quietly in a lush green shady garden, this unusual mini retreat is hidden among the trees and behind the yacht masts of an adjacent marina. Clad in silvered cedar shingle and perched on stilts, The Boat Shed almost disappears among the trees, and is reached by steps up to a little veranda that catches dappled sunlight. Inside The Boat Shed fuses nautical style with clever architectural design to create multi-tasking living spaces. Packed into this compact sanctuary is the veranda with bistro table and chairs, an open-plan, multi-tasking living-sleeping room, under eaves sleep space, small shower/cloakroom, and a separate garden bunk room that provides a great retreat for teens. Architect Henning StummelI has designed a mini-space with grand ideas that is well- insulated, cosy and snug. Yet this secret getaway is just steps away from bustly seaside life, the breezy sea wall and Lymington’s Open Air Sea Water Baths for splashy fun. ** This property is available for rent with New Forest Escapes, who are a small local holiday cottage agency. Do contact us directly for best rates and availability a year in advance ** INSIDE The shingle clad Boat Shed is chic and cool, cosy and compact. Raised on stilts, it is reached by steps and across a sun dappled veranda with bistro table and chairs for two. This is an idyllic spot for morning coffee, a light lunch or an evening glass of wine, with garlands of lights strung round the veranda giving it an inviting boho vibe. Inside is shipshape. The open-plan living-sleeping area includes a dining table seating four and mini kitchen set along one wall. We love how all the kitchen essentials have been niftily concealed behind flush pale wood cabinetry. For autumn and winter stays there is log burner which makes the cabin wonderfully toasty. Overall, this is a simple, pared down and functional space. The comfy cabin-style daybed turns into a generous double while a mezzanine space under the eaves sleeps one. There’s also a little shower room/cloakroom. A separate shingle clad ‘bunk room’ in the garden is spot on for teens wanting their own space. SLEEPING... Bedroom: Large double size sofa bed plus a 3ft single (on the mezzanine platform under the eaves; divided from the main room by simple wooden slatting and reached by ladder). Synthetic bedding. Bunk Room: Available as an extra when booking, providing extra sleeping space with single bunk beds. Synthetic bedding. BATHROOM... Bathroom: Small shower room/ cloakroom ALL THE REST... Kitchen: Mini kitchen area with sink, small convection oven, hob, toaster, kettle, fridge with small freezer compartment. Mod Cons: Roberts radio. Connectivity: No wif-fi, but there is good 4G locally and reasonable phone signal for most suppliers. Kids: Little ones are welcome, however cots and highchairs are not provided. There is space for a travel cot and highchair, so please bring these with you Pets: Dogs are welcome, with a small charge per dog, per stay. Garden is fenced, but houdinis may escape! There is excellent dog walking on the coastal paths from here. Garden: There is a small garden around the property which has mature trees and is shady. A double gate opens directly into the boat yard storage area and the coastal path walking route is just across it. Charcoal BBQ. Parking: There is off road parking for 2 medium sized cars. This property offers electric vehicle AC charging from a wall box. At the time of booking, you will be required to select if you have an electric vehicle. A £35 surcharge is applicable for each EV car per booking. Please bring your own charging cables and inform us of your vehicle registration. OUTSIDE Set in a secluded private garden among the greenery of mature leafy shrubs and trees, you simply wouldn’t know The Boat Shed was there. This welcoming, secret hideaway is found in the heart of yachtie Lymington – at the end of Royal Lymington Yacht Club’s dinghy yard. You can’t get much more yachtie than that! The location feels very special with the garden providing a little green oasis of calm. There’s a table for two on the veranda while in the garden there’s a bench for relaxing and an outside table seats up to eight. If you have visitors it is just perfect. Enjoy eating outside – whether that’s picnic lunches or drinks and nibbles on summer days and warm evenings. You'll also spot the 'bunk room' in the garden, with single bunk beds for two bods; bookable as an extra (if required). HOME TRUTHS The single bed in The Boat Shed is in the eaves, above the bathroom. It is accessible via a vertical ladder up to the shorter side of the bedspace. On the longer side there is a floor to ceiling barrier of slatted wood. The bed is 3ft wide, so only suited to sleep one. Teens and children may be very happy here, however please be aware that there is no barrier on the shorter side to prevent people falling out. The separate bunk room in the garden can be added at an extra cost of £25 per night. This cabin houses single bunk beds to sleep two. As the loo and washing facilities are located in The Boat Shed's main cabin, the bunk room may be better suited to teenagers and those who sleep through the night without interruption! Please be aware that there is no ladder for 'top bunkers', who will have to clamber up and down of their own accord. Practicalities: The sofa bed will not be made on arrival. We leave all the items you'll need in the cupboards for you to make up the bed when you’re ready to turn in for the night. The kitchen table seats four. Should you have more guests visiting, there is another table seating up to eight outside. You may have to move chairs around. There is no Wi-Fi or TV – providing the perfect chance to disconnect and reconnect with each other! Or yourself! Bring a good book. Or bring a torch, for evening strolls along the coastal path where you can night sky watch. Magical. There is an extra charge for logs and kindling to burn on the fire (October- March) but feel free to BYO! ACCESSIBILITY The Boatshed is perched on 1.5m high stilts. There are steps with a good handrail to get onto the veranda and there are no steps once inside. The door is wide enough for wheelchairs, but the bathroom is very small, narrow and has no grab rails etc, for those with challenged mobility. You can park the car within 30 metres. The track is mainly flat, but cobbled and uneven. Other things to note: We want our guests to enjoy the use of the property and have a memorable time while staying with us. We have a few house rules to note, as follows; - The property can not be used for parties or private events of any kind. - No groups under the age of 25. - Strictly no stag/hen dos or same-sex groups. - Additional guests, are not permitted without prior approval. - No music after 9pm - We must be notified of any pets at the time of booking. Dogs are subject to a charge per dog, per stay. Guest access All of it. Other things to note The third bed is high, 4ft wide bed and above the bathroom in the eaves. There is a floor to ceiling slatted barrier on the long side. The ladder is vertical to get to it on the short side. For two adults it would very snuggly! But teens and children may be very happy here. Just please be aware that there is no barrier to stop them falling out on the short side. The kitchen table seats 4. Should you have guests visiting, there is another table for eight outside. 1 dog is welcome for £50 per stay. Our team will contact you for details of age and breed.
