Eco-friendly earth covered house

This unique house is earth covered and naturally air conditioned, using the thermal mass of the earth to achieve ultra low energy consumption. Set on a conservation property, it's great for couples craving a soul restoring getaway and privacy. Come and see how little energy you really need to live comfortably! The space Conceived and constructed by a German master builder in 1994, this unique house blends into the landscape and uses very little energy as it is bonded to the earth and insulated from the outside environment with double glazing. Minimum earth coverage is 2.1 m (7 feet). Earth tube ventilation allows to maintain a fresh air flow and constant interior temperature averaging 21 degrees (+/- 3 degrees). Interior joinery is hand made on site from local timber also milled on site, predominantly 'She-Oak" (Casuarina Cunninghamiana), but also Elm and other donated timbers. There are three bedrooms - one queen bed, one double bed and one single bed. As we don’t charge for cleaning, please ensure the number of people on your booking also reflects the number of rooms you wish to use, by increasing the number of guests if required. For example, if 3 people wish to use three bedrooms, you would need to select 4 guests. Guest access There is undercover outside parking for two cars 80m up the hill at the shed if required. Other things to note Air conditioning is earth tube ventilation, averaging 21 degrees. Temperature varies between a minimum of 18 by the end of winter (if no heating is used) and 23 degrees by the end of summer. The property is strictly non-smoking inside the house. If you smoke outside, please don’t leave cigarette butts lying around the garden and be extremely conscious of the risk of fire.
