Description

Totally private cottage & garden, 10 min. walk to Ashby BART. Near U.C. Berkeley, Oakland, Emeryville. Dedicated parking space, gated keypad entry through bamboo & rose garden. Envisioned as a romantic bedroom, the cottage is also suited to working travelers. Spa-style bathroom includes tub and walk-in shower; can be opened to secluded courtyard garden. WiFi, fridge, microwave, coffee. Walk to: Berkeley Bowl market, restaurants, cafes, deli, coffee shops The space Berkeley registration number: ZCSTR2017-0175 Please Note: Check-in any time after 2PM; check out by 11AM The Cottage is hidden on a tree lined street in an unassuming residential neighborhood next to our small Victorian house. It has its own gated entrance and pathway through grasses, mature trees and a hedge of wild roses. A second gate (keyless entry) allows entrance to the continuance of the pathway through an eclectic garden of climbing roses and fruit trees, flower and berry bushes, black bamboo, & artworks by the hosts. Guests love the eastern views from the large high windows; especially good in the mornings. The views change with the seasons; autumn leaves and burgeoning fruit from the persimmon tree, the riotous golden yellow cascade of rosa banksia, the starkly beautiful bark of the Dawn Redwood tree in winter; maybe delicate pink apple blossom petals swirling in a spring wind. Always, (it being Squirrel End and all) there are the many entertaining squirrels playing high up in the giant oak tree. While you won't need them for privacy, we have provided black-out shades for jet-lagged guests who would like to sleep in, and those who find themselves visiting during the 3 or 4 days of the year on which the very early morning sun comes blazing through. We have also provided curtains for the front windows, which are not needed for privacy, but if you'd like to use them, they can be found in the basket on the top shelf of the "dresser"; very simple to put up, but we will do it for you if you like. If you are lucky enough to visit on a warm day, take a refreshing shower and then a long soak in the big claw foot tub. The bathroom doors open to the totally private small outdoor patio. Actually, guests have said it is just as satisfying even on the coldest of days. Guest access Please let us know if you're coming by car. We will have a dedicated parking place available for you in front of the main house. The Cottage is quite self sufficient; simple cooking / eating, sleeping, working and hanging-out areas are all there, with an outside seating area right out your front door. If there’s something else you need, just ask! Most of our guests love the idea of leaving their cars here in their reserved space, and hopping on the BART to San Francisco, (a 10 minute walk from here to the Ashby BART station, then a 20-30 minute ride) obviating the need for the headache and expense of parking. Some guests opt to drive, and since we're right next to the Bay Bridge, they can get to downtown San Francisco in as little as 20 minutes, subject to time of day and traffic conditions, of course. Other things to note We have provided flameless candles for the Cottage, and request that you do not use open flames of any kind. Thanks!
