Description
This bright, south-facing 8-tatami Japanese-style room overlooks the historic Shirakabe Street and features a traditional tokonoma alcove. The elegant indigo-colored walls create a refined and calming atmosphere, allowing guests to experience the beauty of traditional Japanese aesthetics in a relaxing setting. The space Located in the Historic Preservation District of Chikugo Yoshii, a town famous for its beautiful white-walled streets, Ikuha is a private machiya townhouse accommodation offering a unique stay in a historic setting. Originally built in 1911 during the Meiji era, this traditional merchant's townhouse has been carefully renovated and reopened as a guesthouse in August 2019. Upon entering, guests are welcomed by a traditional toriniwa corridor, an earthen-floored passage that extends from the kitchen to the rear garden, preserving the atmosphere of old Japan. Many original architectural features remain, including the traditional floor plan, decorative transoms (ranma), alcoves (tokonoma), and historic stairways. Antique furnishings collected by the owner further enhance the authentic charm of the house. Enjoy a peaceful stay surrounded by over a century of history, culture, and traditional Japanese craftsmanship. Other things to note Our property is a renovated traditional Japanese house (kominka) that is over 100 years old. To help ensure a comfortable stay, please review the following information before your arrival. ■ Stairs The staircase leading to the second-floor bedrooms preserves the original design of the house and is therefore relatively steep. ■ Noise The property faces a road, and vehicles may pass by throughout the day and night. Two of the bedrooms are located on the roadside, so some guests may notice traffic noise, especially at night. If you are sensitive to noise, we recommend placing your bedding slightly away from the windows. ■ About the Building As this is a historic house that is over 100 years old, its insulation and airtightness may not be comparable to those of modern buildings. While we have taken measures to provide a comfortable stay, we have also preserved the unique character and atmosphere of the traditional architecture. We appreciate your understanding and hope you enjoy the charm and history of this special space. Registration Details Hotels and Inns Business Act | 北筑後保健福祉環境事務所 | 2北筑保第648号-8
