This cabin is perfect for just about any kind of vacation you can imagine in the mountains. Whether you choose to stay around the house reading, swinging, and listening to nature or use it as a home base for exploring, you'll be happy here! Cool elevation, secluded and private woodland setting, yet six miles to historic downtown Spruce Pine and twelve miles to the Blue Ridge Parkway. Only an hour to Asheville or Grandfather Mountain. This cabin is newly redecorated. New for 2018 we have had stone work done and additional landscaping. We have replaced the downstairs furniture with a sectional seating area. New for 2020, the kitchen has been remodeled although we have kept the older photos in the listing. It's a lovely and comfortable space with beautiful views from the back porch. It is truly a mountain experience with lots of opportunity to hike or just sit on the porch and enjoy the serenity. Please read "other details to note." Vaulted ceiling log home with great mountain view which includes a bedroom with a queen bed, a loft with two twin beds, and a sleeper sofa in the lower level. I have changed our interaction status due to current Covid concerns. You will have a code for keypad entry. Feel free to text me at any time. We are only a phone call away, should a problem arise during your stay. From the cabin you will be unable to see another house, yet neighbors are nearby. Spend quiet days away from your normal hurried routine, or head into one of the many small towns in this area for some local flavor…Spruce Pine is ten minutes away, Burnsville is 15 minutes away, and Bakersville is 20 minutes away. Mt. Mitchell State Park and Carolina Hemlocks are nearby, as well as Roan Mountain State Park and The Appalachian Trail. The Blacksmith’s Festival, Mt. Mitchell Crafts Fair and TRAC Studio Tours are just a few of the events that occur each year. Make time for a drive on the Blue Ridge Parkway—stop at the Apple Orchard and scenic overlooks. Enjoy horseback riding at Springmaid Mountain. Make this your home base for adventures further away—Chimney Rock State Park, the Nantahala Outdoor Center, Linville Falls and Grandfather Mountain are all excellent day trips. Don't forget to visit Penland! Please read "other details to note." A car is essential to getting around. The cabin is two miles from the main highway and a private gravel road leads to the cabin for the last 0.8 mile, with a circular drive around the cabin. Very steep, so all wheel drive is recommended. The closest airport is in Asheville, just over an hour away. Boone is one hour away. Charlotte is 2 1/2 hours away. No public transportation. Please read "other details to note." Welcome to the mountains! You'll be able to "get away from it all" and yet be two miles from the main highway. Approximately ten minutes from a grocery store and gas station. We do not use Instant-Book, so you will need to respond to messages before your reservation will be accepted. Please note there is NO CABLE television--bring your DVDs! We do have wi-fi, which works on mountain time (slow!). We have an allotted amount per month that is sometimes used up by a single stay/group of guests, then it is bumped to slower speed for the remainder of the month. Probably not good to count on the wi-fi if you need to take care of business matters. We have a well for water, not municipal/town supplied. Sometimes the pressure is low and the tank can empty with excessive use and it might take a day or two to recover. ***Please note, we are hosting only 4 guests at a time because larger groups have not followed our request for mindful water usage. I'll still leave the description up for the entire cabin in case we go back to our original guest limit (6 people).*** We have small individual trays which you may take out on the deck to enjoy your meals with a view. They are located beside the stairs to the loft. The loft with two twin beds is listed as Bedroom 2 within Airbnb descriptive selections. It is not enclosed/does not have a door. The linens for these beds will be at the foot of each bed as sometimes we don't know between stays how many people will be coming. This helps us to not strip and re-wash unused bed linens. The queen sleeper sofa is in the downstairs common living area so cannot be listed as a Bedroom. A car is essential to getting around. Also, when I've looked at reviews I noticed that a few guests gave 4 stars instead of 5 for location. I don't know what to say to this! The cabin is located just outside a small town in the Western North Carolina mountains. The listing is very specific that the drive to the cabin is two miles off the main highway, the road is steep, and the last 0.8 mile is gravel. If you want pizza delivery and the nightlife, maybe look for a place in a city for your getaway? GPS--yours may tell you that you have arrived when you reach the lower driveway. If you do not see the cabin as in the pictures, continue past another house (with a lower house number than ours) on the right until you reach the driveway to the cabin. Specifics will be sent upon reservation confirmation. If you see a dead bug in the corner you are welcome to pick it up with a wet paper towel and dispose of it in the trash can, or you may leave it there for the next cleaning after you leave. I can assure you that we have year-round care by Terminix, but they do not guarantee that bugs will not fly into the house and die in the corner. Again, please read the listing carefully and make your selection for your stay and subsequent ratings based on what is described and available, not what you think it should be. We don't have an outdoor jacuzzi and we don't have plans to install one, so please don't down-rate this cabin for not having one. Thanks so much! Abigail
