Description
The Sandalwood Suite at Parkside Retreat—a quiet, peaceful retreat just 3 miles from the bay and 5 miles from the oceanfront, without all the beach noise! Five minutes from I-264 in NE Virginia Beach. Huge back yard adjacent to park. We are very much like a classic bed and breakfast, just without the breakfast. We have three separate guest rooms available here at Parkside Retreat—see "Laura's Listings" in my profile to pick your favorite! The space One of three guest rooms available within our five-bedroom home. This upstairs room is a Queen master suite with full-size walk-in shower (no bathtub). Other available rooms include the Parkview Suite (an upstairs King master suite with additional en suite XL Twin and en suite private bath) and the Victorian Room (an upstairs Queen room with additional en suite Full bed and adjacent private hall bath). There is also a cozy Library Room with a low King bed—which can be added to any booking, to share your private bath with you—for an additional donation. Guest access You will enter the home through the front door using a door code. Each room is clearly labeled and has its own private bath. You may also enjoy relaxing on our outdoor decks—complete with tables and chairs, rocking chairs, fountain, and fire pit—which are adjacent to a neighborhood park with benches, tables, and children's play equipment. Free wifi is accessible throughout the home and grounds. We are not able to extend cooking privileges for guests. There is a mini fridge in the room and a microwave at the guest station in the upstairs hallway outside your room, but no access to the kitchen or any indoor common spaces. You are booking a room and private bath only within our home. We have several covered outdoor spaces, including tables and rocking chairs and benches and swings, but no common spaces open for guest mingling within the home. We serve complimentary coffee and tea at the guest station each morning by 8 am. During your stay Hosts will be available throughout your stay to help as much or as little as you'd like. We are an affordable "home away from home" while you travel—whether you'd like lots of interaction or you would prefer your privacy. Just let us know! Other things to note Since 2020, in order to limit guest contact with personal-use items, the bed(s) have been made with fitted sheet, flat sheet, easily laundered throw blankets, and pillow cases only. All other bedding—including comforters, thick blankets, and decorative throw pillows—have been removed and placed in the closet. We encourage you to bring your own warmth layer from home to supplement what we provide during these times of extra health precautions if you think you will want it. We have also eliminated guest visiting in our indoor common spaces, though there is plenty of seating on our two outdoor porches, and there are several benches scattered about the grounds as well. We have hand sanitizer available both at the main entrance and in your room, and we will be sanitizing the front key pad, the door knobs, and the handrails on the stairs regularly during your stay. We have two adorable pups living onsite with us. Tucker (Goldendoodle) and Millie (Siberian Boston) are friendly and crate-trained, and we have gates separating them from the area where you will enter and leave the home. Although they never go upstairs where the guest rooms are, please do not plan to stay here if you have an allergy to—or fear of—dogs. If you are “dog people”, however, and would like to visit with them, please let us know. They love our guests and would be thrilled to meet you! We are located on the corner of a relatively busy road, so there will be some sound of cars driving by until around 10 p.m. and beginning around 6 a.m. (Both of those times are a bit later on weekends.) We are not near a traffic light or cross street, however, so there are no sounds of brakes, horns, revving engines, or stopping and starting of traffic. The sound is rhythmic and peaceful—almost like ocean waves—but it is noticeable if you're not used to it. We have a white noise machine beside each bed and new earplugs available for your use should you find that you want them. Additionally, although we are located in the mildest jet noise zone, there may be the sound of military jets in the area if your stay happens to coincide with a heavy time of jet activity. This is rare—and it is hardly noticeable from within the house—but it can be a little disconcerting to those who have never visited a military town. If you happen to be here during the practice of military flying maneuvers, and you do hear it, you are invited to do as I always do: say a prayer for the safety of those serving in harm's way around the world, and be blessed to have experienced the "sound of freedom." We are looking forward to hosting you in our home!
