The space Please read the entire description of The Tower House before booking as it contains important layout information, which is essential to know before your stay! :) THE TOWERHOUSE HISTORY The Tower is a quirky, charmingly renovated 18th century Grade II listed building, full of character and modern fittings. We live next door in Tadworthy House, which is listed as far back as the doomesday book. It's the oldest building in the area, predating even Northam church. The house was originally a farmhouse and The Tower House was a 3 storey hay storage barn, which has stood for 300 years. Multiple young guests have described the home as like a tower at Hogwarts! OUR DOG POLICY We have been happily hosting dogs in The Tower House for years and our dog rules are designed to be simple and keep the house comfortable for all guests. Please simply pick up any mess and take it away from the cottage when you leave and keep dogs downstairs (there is a stair gate provided in the property) as the uptairs is carpeted and we keep this super clean for young guests. We are happy for dogs to have a cuddle on the sofas, but you may wish to bring their beds along so that they are comfortable during their stay. SELF-CATERING The Tower is perfect for those with an interest in architectural design and old buildings. Reclaimed oak runs through the house and gives a fresh, homely and natural vibe. Upon arrival, you'll be welcomed by our thoughtfully furnished property, provisioned with essentials such as bedding, towels, and a set of staple refreshment making items including tea, coffee, sugar and a pint of milk to kick-start your stay. We also include a couple of rolls in the bathroom to get you started. Do bear in mind, this is self-catering accommodation; plan ahead for your meals and any additional supplies you might need. TOWER HOUSE LAYOUT **Please note** that the layout of the house means that the master bedroom is accessed via going up the stairs located in the shared bathroom - which will best suit families or very comfortable couples! There is a small and cosy open-plan dining and living area featuring rustic slate and hardwood floors and is made up of a dining area, as well as a comfortable living space with TV and Wifi. The Tower is crowned with a bright and airy double master bedroom where you can lie in bed and watch breathtaking views of the sun setting over the sea. The room has gorgeous exposed beams and views to nearby Westward-Ho! Beach and distant Lundy Island. The second bedroom is a twin on the first floor with a peep-hole lookout window to Northam Burrows so you can check the surf from your room! The bathroom has a shower, lavatory and sink with views to the sea and fresh towels provided. Outside there is a lovely, leafy suntrap with outdoor seating, mini BBQ and lawn for playing, including a closed-off pond. The street has plenty of free parking. ACCESS Please note that there is no wheelchair friendly/flat access to The Tower House. The Tower House is accessed via steps up to a little gate and then along a small stretch of gravelled driveway, to another gate and down two steps. THE NEIGHBOURHOOD The Tower House is part of residential street with families and elderly neighbours all around. It provides a lovely, safe atmosphere for guests with children and there is free parking all along the street. ATMOSPHERE & SPIDERS PLEASE BE AWARE that this is an extremely old building: the great coastal views can also come with high coastal winds (which can creak in gales) and it is impossible to keep spiders out entirely! We clean thoroughly and de-cobweb before every new guest arrives but we can guaruntee that by the time you check-out an eight legged friend will have checked in somewhere. We think that this personifies what it is like to stay in a country cottage by the sea. We understand that this is not to everyone's tastes and there are lots of excellent, modern accommodation options in the local area. However, if you are looking for a clean, cosy and characterful place to hang your hat between beach adventures - this is the place for you!
