Description
Built by a renowned architect, Stow House is a tropical modernist pavilion offering luxurious peace and simplicity. A perfect getaway for friends and family. Set in more than two acres of lush tropical gardens on the headland above the lagoon, Stow House overlooks a breathtaking Indian Ocean seascape; the waves break on the lovely beach at the bottom of our garden with a hypnotic background hum. Set in tropical gardens amongst coconut trees, peacocks, fireflies and monkeys. The space With 3 family-sized bedrooms, breathtaking open plan lounge, dining and kitchen space and 15 metre pool, Stow House is finished in teak and polished concrete. The interior is designed so the breeze can move around the spaces and create sustainable cool without artificial air-con. On the upper floor is a wonderful chill space to read a book and watch the sea. Or if feeling more energetic have a game of Table Tennis . While here, choose service or solitude. Our team of local staff offer friendly unobtrusive housekeeping and meals and can arrange transport for local trips, days out or airport runs. Guest access The Villa is for the exclusive use of the guests. No other guest will share the space. A rocky seaside is accessible from the house, through the cinnamon gate at the bottom of the garden. Take the steps down to the rocks for a wonderful isolated spot to sit and absorb the ocean song. A small stretch of beach is accessible (for a few months in a year) either by crossing the rocks (be careful!) or via a pathway at the top of the headland – please ask the staff to show you. We do not advice swimming in the strong currents. Please be responsible and safe. Other things to note Private 15 metre infinity pool with sun loungers, decking space for pool side dining. Roof terrace to relax and enjoy amazing ocean views, sun rise, sun set, star gazing and firefly spotting. Fully equipped open plan kitchen, living, dining space, a barbecuing area and multiple dining areas to choose from. There are multiple games and activities available at the villa. You can enjoy watching nature at its best and spot the various birds and wildlife that inhabit or visit the garden, open areas for reading and relaxing, books and board games. There’s also Cricket and Badminton for the more energetic. Or borrow a body board and stroll down to Mawella beach. Our resident wildlife includes peacocks, grey langur, macaques, monitor and other lizards, giant squirrels, jungle hare, porcupines, mouse deer. Many birds are spotted throughout the day including hornbills, sea eagles, barbets, coucal and there are wildlife books and binoculars available for guests to use. The site does involve climbing a few steps to reach the property from the car drop off point. The Swimming pool is not fenced, so please be responsible and safe. We take care to be as socially and environmentally responsible as possible. Initiatives include a new local recycling waste collection for paper and glass, food waste composting, water harvesting (for pool and garden use) and avoidance single use plastic ( as the community does not have a reliable way to dispose of plastics safely). There are re-useable shopping bags and water bottles available for guests to use. Please don’t bring plastics with you if possible and if that’s unavoidable please take them away with you if you can. We love that you enjoy your stay so please do show your appreciation to the staff for their care by generously tipping the team.
