Peaceful rural cottage, a walk from the beach.

Wetherall Cottage is the perfect escape from the hurly burly of modern living. If you are looking for tranquility, to listen to the birds and really see the stars, this is the place for you. We are located in a totally secluded spot, with no immediate neighbours. A 25 minute stroll from Welcombe Mouth, a gem of a beach, off the tourist track on the English Heritage coastal footpath and popular local surfers. So pack a picnic and spend time to enjoy breath-taking scenery and enjoy the sunset. The space Our cottage was built in 1955 by my sons great grandparents, Jack and Simone Haywood and is a special place for the family. We have all spent many happy years coming here for weekends and holidays. We hope you love it as much as we do. Weatheall cottage is in a unique position, in about an acre of its own ground with countryside as far as the eye can see. It sits on a sloping site with 12 steps from the gate to the front door. As guests you have sole use of the ground floor consisting of 3 bedrooms – two generous doubles and a single with additional cabin bed – great for children. The comfortable lounge has a gorgeous open fire place. The original hand-built kitchen has been refurbished with granite work tops and Belfast sink and is well equipped. The renovated bathroom has a fabulously powerful shower. There is also an additional external shower/utility room adjacent to the back door with washing machine, shower, wash hand basin and 2nd toilet. All rooms are individually furnished in a traditional retro style reflecting the 1950's era of the building. For your entertainment we have good collection of DVD’s and board games. The garden consists of a grass terrace area at the front of the house with a secluded barbeque patio (with fire pit) on the level below leading to a small wooded area with a stream running through it - a perfect place for den building. This area is left natural and is a little wild. There is a small greenhouse at the front of the house containing deck chairs, garden table and chairs and a parasol for your use. There is parking for 2 medium size cars in the layby we created by the entrance gate. In renovating the cottage we were very keen to utilise green technology as much as possible installing photovoltaic and solar thermal panels, air source heat pump central heating, exterior insulation and replacing the crittall windows with wooded double-glazed ones. At the same time it was important to us to retain and enhance its period character and features. Guest access Guests have sole use of the cottage and the accommodation is all on the ground floor. There is a room on the first floor but access to this is kept for family use only and kept locked. Other things to note 1) The Wifi has been upgraded to Fibre to the house. 2) We have a movement sensor light which operates from dusk, it will come on as you come up the front steps but I recommend bringing a torch if arriving after dark as there is no street lighting and it is truly dark. 3) The house and the surrounding area has always been a mobile phone black spot so we have a landline at the property. However Mobile coverage in the area has improved recently and we now seem to get 4G in the top of the garden!
