Description

Sensational position next to the sea which is about 50 feet away! Superb sea views over Polperro harbour and beach from all rooms except bathrooms, this large, very spacious historic 3 storey 18th-century captain’s house combines three former cottages and retains many original features and offers excellent facilities and a superb garden! Easy sea access for swimming, fishing, kayaking etc. Excellent comfort, privacy and space. Two large internal parking spaces in village. The space The house is listed and spacious and has retained many original features and seafaring memorabilia and offers excellent facilities, with each bedroom having its own en-suite bath and shower or shower and all rooms except bath/shower rooms have sea and beach views (showers are electric as is the cooker as there is no mains gas in Polperro). Sir Hugh Walpole used to own the house and it has been in paintings by Oskar Kokoshka. It is one of Polperro's oldest properties and very unusually has its original floorboards on most of the first and second floor. Please note that although 8 people can be accomodated, we do not let it for more than 6 people (this is a strict limit) as this optimises its use, comfort and privacy. As the house is listed and character features retained it is not high tech or swish, but rather very comfortable and homely. It has good Wifi. It is very much a property to relax in and enjoy the wonderful position and garden. The house has an entrance hall, four large bedrooms; one with super-king bed on the top floor, one with a standard double on the top floor, a king-size bed on the ground floor and one twin bedded room with standard singles each with en-suite bathroom and toilet (two bedrooms with showers and two with bath/showers), a well-equipped kitchen and a large living room with a door to the extensive garden which consists of a flat grass area and a large terrace and steps up through flower beds. You can store kayaks and canoes in the garden and launch them easily. Please note that there are ten reasonably steep stairs between each floor so visitors with mobility issues may wish to consider this before booking. Many of the rooms have exposed beams. Please note that we do not accept pets as one of the owners is allergic to them. This also means that no visiting dogs can be allowed in the property please. The house is not available for parties/hen/stag/all male/all female groups and is only for family holidays and those celebrating birthdays and anniversaries or looking for a relaxing holiday with plenty of things to do locally including many public attractions, walking, swimming, boat trips, fishing, pubs, very good restaurants, playing on the beach, picnicking, kayaking, canoeing, coasteering etc. This is very much our family house which is informal and comfortable. Please feel free to take any books on the shelves home if you have not finished them by the time you leave. Guest access Access to all areas including a superb garden with views over the harbour and out to sea. The last 300 yards to the house are pedestrianised which makes the setting idyllic. Two large internal car parking spaces are provided ten minutes walk away and the owners will pay the cost of the luggage service which can easily be booked to bring you and your luggage to the house. Other things to note In terms of amenities, the cottage has reliable and fast WiFi, an electric heating system, electric towel rails and three digital TVs (one very large one in the lounge). In the fully-fitted kitchen there is a large electric hob, oven, microwave, large fridge, freezer, Bosch dishwasher, Miele washing machine, dining table and benches, and cupboards and draws filled with all the utensils, cutlery, crockery and glasses needed. Please note we provide all essentials including dishwasher tablets , soap, loo rolls etc, but not towels. Outside the back door on the middle floor there is a garden with a sunny patio and furniture and a wonderful lawn with views over the harbour. Wireless internet is included, with strong signal throughout the house, and there is a telephone for incoming calls only. In terms of essentials, toilet paper, bed linen, and soap is provided, but not towels. Please bring soft shoes as the floors are mostly wooden. Please help us to preserve the house.
