The Michael Yeasley guest house is a charming way station tucked in downtown Shepherdstown, the oldest enclave in West Virginia and one teeming with restaurants, coffee shops and arts and crafts centers hard against the Potomac River. Outdoor activities, like rafting, tubing, kayaking, golf, and hiking are all within walking distance. We are only short drive to Charles Town Casinos and Antietam Battlefield. We are fully licensed and support the community by paying occupancy tax. The space The two-story guest house features three bedrooms, two bathrooms and a kitchen. Newly refinished wood floors throughout the public spaces and master bedroom. Fresh paint throughout. Carpet in the second bedroom. Two full baths with all of the amenities: one with a large soaker tub and the other with a shower. New beds, bedding, and towels. Large laundry room with iron and ironing board. Kitchen is stocked with cooking implements, plates, utensils, and spices. A Weber grill, briquettes and lighter fluid are available for cookouts. The guest house abuts the historic Michael Yeasley stone house along a common patio in the rear. Guest access Access to the entire guest house, parking, front yard with an al fresco dining area and Weber grill, and a fenced shared side yard and back patio with lounging chairs. Other things to note This historic house located on German Street was built in 1789 by Michael Yeasley. Yeasley, a German immigrant, served in the American Revolution War as a member of a German battalion from Pennsylvania before moving to Shepherdstown in 1789 and building the stone house. In 1798, he procured four bells from Germany for the Christ Reformed Church and had them transported by ox cart to the town. The bells are still there. The property also includes an infill property built by poet and congressman Henry Bedinger in the 1820s. The guest house abuts the main house along a common patio in the rear.
