Perched high on the Mendip Hills, in a landscape that offers sweeping views across the Somerset Levels to Glastonbury Tor, this two bedroom self-catering barn conversion sleeps up to 4 persons (plus infant), makes a perfect getaway for couples and families alike. Whether you want a week away with the kids, a or short break for the two of you, or a getaway for yourselves and another couple, everything you could ask for in terms of luxurious comfort, peaceful seclusion and enjoyable days out. The space Rural but not remote Despite being surrounded by spectacular open countryside there are ample facilities conveniently close by. There are two delightful country pubs within five minutes’ drive. The bustling city of Wells is just ten minutes by car with a great selection of pubs, restaurants, takeaways and supermarkets, as well as the magnificent Cathedral, Bishop’s Palace and markets on the Wednesday and Saturday. A boredom-free zone Maesbury Castle, an Iron Age hillfort, is just on the brow of the hill behind us and there’s wonderful walking. A footpath leads straight from the front door of the property to nearby Shepton Mallet and you have the whole of the Mendip Hills and the Somerset Levels to explore. It’s also at the heart some great cycling and caving country. The area boasts a number of very popular routes for those on two wheels and there’s a great selection of potholes to explore from Swildon’s Hole to Goatchurch Cavern. There’s plenty of local attractions for kids with Longleat Safari Park, Wookey Hole and Cheddar Caves, the Fleet Air Arm Museum at Yeovilton and Haynes Motor Museum. In terms of heritage and culture, you are spoilt for choice with Wells Cathedral, Glastonbury Abbey and Tor, as well as a host of popular National Trust properties in the vicinity. We’re also surrounded by nature reserves teeming with wildlife and birds. The Jurassic Coast and the World Heritage City of Bath are easy day trips. For foodies, there’s temptation galore with artisan cheese makers, quaint cider farms, craft breweries and award-winning chefs in abundance. We even have some pretty big local festivals – not just a music one but also a couple of big agricultural shows.
