Description

Experience the rustic homestead ranch lifestyle. Join us in our small cabin home for a taste of tiny home living and basic homesteading. We would love to introduce you to this wonderful simple lifestyle Hiking, bicycling, bird watching, and historical places to visit such as Tombstone and Bisbee nearby. Please read everything posted. Our description tells you exactly what to expect being on a very small ranch. We don’t want you to be disappointed in your stay. Please read house manual The space It is important to read the entire description so you will know what to expect during your stay! ThunderHorse Ranch is a very quaint, rustic homestead that is geared more for a weekend retreat than longer stays. It is a peaceful place in the country, but not to far out, so that you can enjoy time in Sierra Vista, Tombstone, and Bisbee. We will gladly direct you to places of interest and fine dining in our area. You can also just choose to stay on the Ranch and enjoy the front porch and the beautiful Mountain View. We are always eager to teach anyone interested in this hobby farm lifestyle how to get started and what is involved in the day to day care of the land and livestock. We currently are raising goats, chickens, and Livestock Guardians. We consider our guests part of the family so they may join us wherever we are. NOTE: It is a private room in our cabin that you are renting. There is a private bathroom also! You have access to the living room, kitchen and all the rest of the ranch is yours to enjoy! Let us know in advance of arriving if you will need refrigerator space for snacks and beverages. We are big on holidays here, so there is always something a little extra going on at those times. Easter is a special brunch, picnic style weather permitting. The summer holidays feature a cookout or a picnic. Labor Day weekend is an exception as we as either attend the Rodeo in Sonoita or pick and process prickly pears for juice if there is a decent crop. We need 48 hours notice that you will be here for the summer holiday meals! Thanksgiving thru Christmas are extra special with special home style activities on the ranch. We have a big Thanksgiving dinner every year, (weather permitting we have it outdoors) and for Christmas Eve there is an Italian dinner with a bonfire after with hot drinks and dessert to watch the skies for Santa Claus! No advanced notice needed for Thanksgiving and Christmas Eve as those meals are prepared no matter what. Christmas Day is private family time, you are on your own. Note than any activity outdoors that requires building a fire is subject to last minute cancellation if the danger of wildfires are moderate to high due to heat and wind! We monitor the recommendations set by local authorities. We are in a drought area. IMPORTANT: Unfortunately we can not allow pets on the Ranch as our guardian dogs will view them as intruders or predators, and could do them severe bodily harm. The dogs love people and you will find them to be big teddy bears, but their job is to protect the livestock from other animals! Please no children ! We do not have the ranch set up with a child safety plan or child safety equipment. Even the smallest of ranches have certain inherent dangers, such as snakes, venomous bugs, and plant life that have thorns and stickers. We want everyone visiting to be as safe as possible. We have facilities for horses if you are traveling with yours. You must provide their food and containers for water. Their daily care will be left to you including cleanup of the area each day and upon leaving. We have many places to ride around here. Our cabin is very small, but very comfy and cozy! The front porch is used year around to relax, enjoy the views, and catch up on your reading or anything else you enjoy! We also have Gravity-free lounge chairs for sitting in the yard at night to lay back and enjoy the night skies. During the summer, we like to sit outside at night and enjoy our “special pool” and a glass of wine from one of our nearby vineyards or beer from a nearby brewery. If you aren’t enjoying the nightlife in the surrounding areas, you are welcome to join us for a glass. Anything you want to know about small scale homesteading, we will be glad to teach you. We mainly garden and raise dairy and meat goats, and also chickens. We love producing products from all these things, including soaps and lotions. If we are making any products during your stay, you are welcomed to join in. Guest access Make yourself at home here, that is what ThunderHorse Ranch is all about! Just be ever mindful of the comfort and safety of our animals! Do not go in the livestock pens without the Cowboy or myself with you. This is a safety measure. Important during monsoon season (mid June to mid September)..... roads are paved all the way to the ranch! You will be able to get to your destination and back without delays due to flooding of the roads around the ranch during storms. Many of the roads in the Sierra Vista area are not fully paved and can make getting around a little tricky during the rains. If you have never seen a monsoon storm, you will be in awe of Mother Nature! Just know they can be dangerous and take appropriate care! There is always someone available to assist you with finding activities to do, not ranch related. We can help you find extracurricular activities of interest nearby. Tombstone and Old Bisbee are a 30 minute drive from the ranch. The wineries of the Sonoita area are 45 to 60 minutes away. There are very good restaurants near by in all of these little towns. Just let us know what you like and we will recommend a place to suit your taste buds. We offer laundry services if needed for a nominal fee.You can get pretty dirty out here participating in some of our activities. Bring some old clothes and sturdy shoes or boots. On Sundays we have a Cowboy style breakfast featuring biscuits and gravy, sausage, fresh eggs, and fruit in season. From mid June thru October we have Breakfast in the Garden on Sundays, where we make breakfast with the fresh vegetables and fruits grown in the garden. This meal features omelettes you can make yourself on the Blackstone Griddle. We are attempting to start a beehive or two, so we an have fresh honey. The hives will be put in a location where the bees have privacy and not bother anyone. We ask that you do not go near the hives! During your stay The Cowboy (Ray) is on the ranch during your stay. He is available to answer questions about the area, and assist in anything guests may need. We love getting to know our guests, but are also respectful of their privacy. We are here to offer you activities revolving around everyday small ranch life! If there is something in particular you would like to learn we will definitely try to accommodate you! Certain times of the year activities are restricted to what the weather forecast is. Holidays, especially Thanksgiving and Christmas, have special meanings for us, and you are welcome to be a part of all the activities. Please always message us thru the AirBnB App. We don’t carry cellphones with us all of the time and our land line does not take messages. We check the AirBnB App every few hours and respond to it in a timely manner. If you use our personal email or text us chances are we won’t see it for awhile. If I am cooking a meal and you happen to be here when we eat, you are welcome to join us! We don’t have regular mealtimes, we eat when the work is done! Other things to note Every effort is made to ensure the cleanliness of the guest room and bathroom. Clean sheets and towels are always available, and there are some toiletries available in the bathroom. The house cats and dogs are not allowed in the guest space unless the guests themselves invite them in. It is a working ranch and DUST, DIRT, ANIMAL SMELLS and ANIMAL NOISES HAPPEN! We try to eliminate as many of these problems as possible, but sometimes it just can’t be done, especially during monsoon season. The Livestock Guardians bark to ward off predators and unwanted humans, especially after dark. We can’t prevent the barking as this is what they do to get their job done! They ONLY bark when they sense a predator nearby. The cabin is cooled by a swamp cooler and fans, which do a great job in the dry Arizona heat, but there is also window air conditioning, if needed. If you find you room to hot, just let us know and we will take care of it! IMPORTANT: Please let us know in ADVANCE if you will be needing refrigerator space. We also have a Charcoal Weber grill availabile for your use but you must provided the charcoal. When you arrive, you might be welcomed by Noel the Cat and Justin, one of our Livestock Guardians. They are the keepers of the ranch and find it necessary to check out everyone. They are both very friendly, but shy, and extremely gentle to our guests. We also have a house dog, Joshua, a very sweet and exuberant youngster. None of the animals are allowed in the guest sleeping spaces unless you invite them in. Our Ranch is a working ranch where you can enjoy visiting the livestock pens and interacting with any of the baby animals we have at the time. The older animals love attention, too, so don’t forget them! All our animals are very sociable, but we ask that you come find one of us if you actually want to go in their pens. We always welcome help with the feeding and watering of the animals. We have a vegetable garden every year, so if you like digging in dirt, we can put you right to work! Because we are a working ranch with working guardian dogs, there are a certain amount of animal noises thru the night. If you are sensitive to such noises you may want to bring earplugs. If you happen to be here during mealtimes, you are welcome to join us! We have no set mealtimes, it is always dependent on how much is going on that day. You are welcome to photograph anything on the ranch, and we will be glad to take pictures of you interacting with the animals. Because we are a working ranch, there certain times of the day when the animals are given our undivided attention, but guests are welcomed to help if they wish. We have farm fresh eggs for sale to take with you when your stay is over, along with a few of our specialty foods (Spicey Blackberry BBQ Sauce, amazing homemade salsa, homemade vanilla extract, and other wonderful delights.) In the fall, we have Prickly Pear Juice! Ask what we have available. During the summer months we have fresh veggies available, also! ALWAYS MESSAGE US THRU AirBnB, not our phones or email! We will always get our messages if done thru AirBnB!
