Nestled in the mountains of Nagano at an elevation of 860 meters (2,821 feet), this is a luxury home exclusively for those who want to escape tourist traps, experience a side of Japan rarely seen by outsiders, and do it in style. Our 3-bedroom home is 200 sq. meters (2153 sq. feet) large and is a marriage between traditional Japanese architecture and modern technology and comfort. The home is accessible from Tokyo and other major cities via the Shinkansen bullet train or Joshin-etsu Expressway. The space Our house was designed to include elements of Japan's traditional homes known as kominka. While our home is recently constructed, kominka have been built across Japan for over 300 years. They are made from wood and often feature large open spaces with high ceilings and exposed support beams that still retain the shape of the original trees. The joints between the beams themselves are either hand carved to perfectly fit together or are joined with wooden pegs, making them stronger than joints using nails. Although the design of our home may have a long history, it is completely modern when it comes to comfort and convenience. It is warm and cozy in the winter yet cool and relaxing in the summer. Heated floors, a wood burning stove, a kitchen with full appliances, imported leather furniture and a high-end stereo system are just a few highlights of the interior. In keeping with the traditional design, the home also features antique furniture and original pieces of art. The home is perfect for celebrating special occasions such as anniversaries, birthdays, holidays, etc., or for simply having a relaxing time in the gorgeous mountains of rural Nagano.
