Description

The Garden Room at The Old Bakehouse. Self contained with independent access we have everything you need for a comfortable stay - high quality bedlinen and toiletries; en suite bathroom; Nespresso machine; sunny self service breakfast space. On the edge of the Chilterns, a short drive from Tring Station, three trains an hour to London. Local attractions include Whipsnade Zoo, Tring Museum, The Making of Harry Potter at Leavesden Studios, Bletchley Park, Waddesdon Manor and the Ashridge Estate. The space The Old Bakehouse was built around 1840 and The Garden Room was converted in 2018 from our office and shed. The bed is a handmade four poster UK king size with Caspar mattress and good quality bedlinen, bedside lights, kettle and Nespresso coffee machine, Sophie Conran crockery. Please note there is no kitchen, but there is a microwave, toaster, small fridge and self service breakfast goods. We have a child's travel cot and a child's inflatable bed, but there's not much room, although children are welcome. Before our time the privies for all five cottages in the row (now only two) stood where The Garden Room is now. The Bakehouse was a two storey wooden building added on to the row, housing a communal oven for the cottages to reduce the risk of fire. In the 1980s the privies were rebuilt as the Office and the Shed, which we now call The Garden Room, and the Bakehouse was converted to the current main house sitting room and master bedroom. Access to Old Bakehouse is by foot from Chequers Lane along a short path in front of the adjoining house and through the gate pictured. Parking is in the street right outside. The parking space against the white end wall of our cottages will usually be available for you, as far as is possible on a public road. We are happy for dogs to stay so long as they have their own bed with them. Although everything is at ground floor level we are not DDA compliant. Guest access Please feel free to enjoy the garden Other things to note Although we are usually at home in The Old Bakehouse, we ask our guests to come and go independently, using the keys in the keybox. We now provide a DIY breakfast of juice, cereal and toast. There is no kitchen, but there is crockery and cutlery and a small fridge and microwave for any picnic you may bring, or local takeaway such as the excellent Woodz pizza, fish and chips from the pub, or Indian at the Haldi restaurant. We ask you to leave dirty crockery for us to replenish, as we would prefer you not to wash up in the bathroom basin. Our meticulous cleaning and laundry routine was set up to follow Covid 19 best practice guidelines and has continued.
