"Viaggio" Historical Suite, Corfu Old Town

"Viaggio" is one of the very few surviving low rise terraced houses of the Venetian period in the whole of the historical centre of Corfu Town. Situated in a picturesque alley a few steps from Spianada Square, everything the Old Town has to offer is quite literally on your doorstep. A home of generations innovatively restored into a luxurious yet home for visitors who seek to experience the island as locals, without compromising on quality. The apartment is located on the ground & 1st floor. The space "Viaggio" is the result of a creative and delicate restoration project that was formulated and implemented by me and the team of "Architechnio", a Corfu based architectural office of which I am part of. Our aim was to create a functional and space efficient layout, all the while preserving and enchancing the original features of the house. In doing so we used natural materials like wood, stone and glass and employed interior design techniques and innovative practices in order to create a space that is both aesthetically pleasing as well as practical. The house entrance is accessed from a little alley some 20 metres off Spianada Square. Being a house and having ultra sound proof windows and doors means that you can be 100% confident that you will be completely undisturbed from noise and noise transfer, a problem that is very common and integral to the multistory old buildings of the historical centre. The house has two floors that connect with a custom made LED lit wooden staircase. The ground floor consists of an open plan living, dining, kitchen area and a WC with a toilet and wash basin that sit under the staircase. The kitchen is fully equipped with fridge, freezer, stove, oven, kettle, sandwich toaster, espresso machine and filter coffee maker, along with all kitchen utensils and tableware. The living space has a large comfortable sofa, armchair, coffee table and 50 inch Smart TV with NETFLIX. The upper floor consists of a bedroom, bathroom and walk-in wardrobe. The bedroom has a king size bed with a mattress topper and measures 1.80 by 2.00 metres. The bed can be separated into 2 single beds that measure 0.90 by 2.00. There is a bedside table either side of the bed. Across the bed floats another 50 inch TV. Between the windows there is a dressing table with a mirror that can also be used as a laptop friendly desk when working remotely. There is also an armchair next to one of the windows for relaxing moments when listening to music, reading or just sitting overlooking the picturesque alley. The bathroom has a toilet and wet room type shower which has a rainfall shower head above and a handheld shower head below. There is a wash basin with a custom made wooden cabinet unit, with ample space for storage. The bathroom also has a washing mashine. The walk-in wardrobe has an open storage system for clothes and a bench surface where a suitcase can be placed and opened for easy access to its contents. Throughout the house, there is ample and diverse lighting options from very bright, to mellow, to soft, that can be adjusted depending on the need or mood. Both floors have air conditioning units for climatic control both in summer and winter.
