Description

Welcome to The Bicycle Thief! A cozy, quiet, quaint and private space. Name inspired by a special trip to Canada's East Coast. The location is perfect! The Bicycle Thief is two blocks from the river, amazing park, 'downtown' Arnprior (restaurants, shops, historic movie theatre, museum, banks) and Gillies Grove trails. Coffee, tea, high speed wi-fi, smart tv, Netflix, games. ***Please read everything in description below before booking*** We look forward to hosting you! The space **Please read everything below to ensure there aren't any disappointments when you arrive** Welcome to Arnprior! The location of the Bicycle Thief is perfect for anything you may want to do while in Arnprior. We are not located right in the city of Ottawa, but rather an easy half hour highway drive away. The space is bright and charming, decorated with antiques and love. Our signature piece is of course the hanging bicycle. We're in a rare pocket of town that has super high speed internet. New 40" smart tv with Netflix and many other viewing options. Enjoy your own very private two-story space consisting of an eat-in kitchen, inviting living room, and private porch. Upstairs you'll find a full bathroom with an old-fashioned clawfoot tub and shower, and two bedrooms; one master bedroom with a queen-sized platform bed, and a secondary bedroom with a bunkbed (two twin mattresses). Please note: The bunkbed has two full-sized twin mattresses, however the ceiling is sloped, making the top bunk a very comfortable sleeping spot, but notsomuch a great reading spot. You'll also find many board games and books for you and your family/friends to enjoy. Our goal is for the Bicycle Thief to feel like your home away from home. My home is next door and I am often around to help with little notice if you should have any questions at all. Although it's next to my home, The Bicycle Thief is very private, with it's own path to the road and it's own private porch leading to it's separate entrance. I am here if you reach out to me, but happy to leave you to enjoy your time, and we may not even cross paths. This is a century home, built before 1900. The beds are comfortable, and it has the charm of yesteryear. If you are seeking slick and modern, this will not satisfy. If you are looking for quaint, clean, and cozy, we have that in spades! The stairs are narrow and steeper than most, but easily navigated by those who do not have mobility challenges. Really no different than most stairs - if you already have challenges with regular stairs, these are a little steeper, so might be more difficult. The living room is small and cozy with a two-seater couch and a couple of floor pillows for playing games on the coffee table, or watching tv. Five star ratings are very important to hosts who make an effort for their guests. If at any time in your stay you do not feel there is merit to a five star review in any of the categories: accuracy, cleanliness, communication, check in, location, or value, I would appreciate that you let me know how this could be improved. The overall experience for you is important for me to know about and anything less than five stars means you feel it was lacking. Please tell me in what way it was not a five star, and how you feel it could be improved while keeping in mind that you are not booking a ritzy hotel with a concierge, or a luxury vacation spot in the Cayman Islands. This is an old house. The antique claw foot tub and sink have permanent stains, but they are cleaned and sanitized after every guest. There is a coffee maker as well as a selection of teas, and basic spices. In terms of kitchenware, there is everything you will need from a slow cooker to the pots and pans required to create a gourmet feast. Please plan to bring any food or perishables you plan to use, but feel free to reach out if you need a couple of eggs or a cup of milk. Just like good neighbors do, I'm happy to provide what I have, if I have it and if I am available to do so. This is a lovely little unit that I work hard to make comfortable and ensure is clean before your arrival. Your sheets and towels are fresh, the floors have been swept and washed, and there are extra blankets for your comfort and sleeping preferences. Adjust the temperature to your comfort - it is baseboard heating and each room is controlled by it's own heating unit, and an air conditioner upstairs that keeps the unit cool on hot days. Shampoo, conditioner and soap are all in the unit for your use. During summer months, there is street parking with the unit, and this is just a very short walk away. During the winter when parking restrictions are in place overnight, a space in the driveway will be provided for night parking. Guest access Guests enjoy having full privacy in the Bicycle Thief, including your own small, private porch entrance. You will not be sharing the unit with anyone other than your own friends or family. **The two doors to storage areas in the kitchen are for my personal use** (Tall pantry and exterior storage room door). Other things to note This is an OLD home with charm of yesteryear. This home is not accessible for folks who may have mobility issues or other issues with stairs as they are somewhat steep and narrow, and the sleeping quarters and washroom are upstairs. The queen bed is a platform bed, quite low to the ground, but on a raised platform. Though the Bicycle Thief is generally VERY quiet, you may hear the odd sound, including the bells from the church across the street (late Sunday mornings), and very rare, but occasional barking from my dog (you will not likely see him unless we cross paths while I'm out walking him). There can also be the occasional creaks and bumps that can be expected from a century home. The bunkbed has two twin mattresses, however the ceiling is sloped, making the top bunk mostly suitable for a child or teen than an adult. It is plenty sturdy, and comfy for sleeping, but might not be the most ideal option for a grown adult. Although we are just a few minutes up the street from the hospital, you have no worries about sirens and ambulances. They turn off the sirens when they turn onto the street. The road in front can be busy during peak morning/evening periods, but is mostly very quiet.
