Enjoy your stay in our 12'x14' outfitter tent on our 9 acre property equipped with a queen bed, day bed, camping & cooking amenities. We are a homestead scale farm inspired by regenerative agriculture and permaculture practices. We raise egg laying chickens, meat chickens, sheep, pigs, geese, ducks, and turkeys, depending on the year. We are 5 Mins to Hinckley Lake, 15 mins to Adirondack park border, close to fishing, hunting, hiking, mountain biking, and Herkimer diamond mining sites. No cleaning fees! The price you see is the price you pay. The outfitter tent is located at the rear of our property just beyond our sheep pasture, on a raised platform. It is tucked into the trees and approximately 1000ft from the main house and parking area. You will have privacy and seclusion, while enjoying the sounds of the frogs, birds, and other wildlife. You will need to walk to the site from the main house, and carry your gear along a flat trail. We have a wagon available if needed. We stock the campsite with: - 12'x14' outfitter tent - Wood stove for cold seasons - Outdoor shower - Composting toilet in separate building - Bed with queen mattress, includes linens - Trundle bed for extra guests, includes linens - Solar powered interior lighting - Board Games - Table & Chairs - Picnic Table - Coleman camp stove and propane, charcoal grill and charcoal, campfire grill. (Please bring your own dishes, pots, pans, and utensils) - Coffee and french press, mugs provided - Bug spray made from essential oils - Outdoor fire pit & firewood for sale ($5 for a bucket full of wood, half the price of retail stores) - Solar powered battery pack for phones and small electronics - Flashlight - First aid kit - Trash, & recycling bins - Cooler (bring your own ice) - Seasonal goodies from our homestead available for purchase What to bring: - Water - Utensils, plates, pots, pans - Ice if you want to use the cooler Our Property: The area is full of life during all seasons. We are situated in the woods on a quiet country road. We have about 9 acres of mixed open and wooded land. We have been working on creating a functioning homestead inspired by permaculture and regenerative agriculture. If you come in spring, summer, or fall, you'll see our chickens and sheep on pasture right outside the tent, and pigs and chickens in the forest. We are happy to show you all of our projects, and you are welcome to walk the property if you'd like. We can talk through many projects, including: - Greenhouse with water catchment system - Chickens with composting system - Sheep - Silvopasture system with pigs and chickens, eventually sheep - Food Forest with fruit trees, edible greens, berries, etc. - Planned and wild edibles throughout the property - Perennial flower and herb gardens - Preliminary wild-flower meadow - Annual gardens with hugelkulture mounds, plant guilds, and raised beds Nearby stuff to do: - Hinckley Lake: 5 mins to enjoy boating, public swimming beaches, picnicking, kayaking, etc. (We do not have room for a trailer or towed boat). - Adirondack Park: About 15-20 minutes to the park border. The largest piece of public land in the contiguous US. Lots of fishing, hiking, and swimming in pristine mountain lakes. - Hinckley Forest: 3 mins away, hiking and mountain biking trails (and a secret berry patch if you come late July). - BREIA Trail system: 5 minutes & 15 minutes, well maintained protected lands with hiking trails, cross-country ski trails & snow shoeing - Pixley Falls: 25 Mins, a beautiful waterfall with a short hike. Winter cross-country ski trails. - Remsen farmers market: 10 mins, small market running from June to Oct that we help organize on Saturday Mornings - Spring Creek Lavender Farm: 3 mins away, local farm where you can pick your own lavender bouquet and buy lavender products and visit farm animals. - High Peaks: About a 2.5 hours, absolutely beautiful drive through the Adirondack park. This region is home to the highest peaks in the state. - West Canada Creek: About 10 minutes away. One of the most popular fishing spots in the country. Kayaking, tubing, swimming. - Old Forge: About 45 minutes. Probably the most popular tourist town in the western Adirondacks. - Delta Lake Park: 25 minutes to a beautiful lake, state park, with boating, fishing, hiking, and public swimming beach. - Utica & Rome: About 25 minutes. Lots of farmers markets and concerts in the summer. Tour Saranac brewery, visit the Munson Williams Art Museum, see a show at the Stanley Theatre. Plenty of amazing places to eat - just ask us! - Herkimer diamonds: About 20 minutes. Mine your own Herkimer diamonds, local rock formations unique to this region. - Syracuse: 1hr15 mins, Breweries, shopping mall, restaurants, NY State fair. - Skiing: Within 25 Mins of Woods Valley Ski Resort, 50 Minutes to McCauley Mountain Ski Resort, and 1.5hrs to Gore Mountain Ski Resort You'll have access to the campsite area in the back of the property. Guests can come up to the house to use the wifi, but are only allowed inside the house under special circumstances. Guests are free to tour the property. My partner and I live on the property with our dogs. We both work from home during the day. If we are not home and you need something, just send a message and we'll respond quickly. We are happy to hang out and show you around the property, or we can also just leave you alone. We let guests decide the amount of interaction they want. Feel free to ask any questions while you're here. It's pretty rural, but there are bars and restaurants within a 5-20 min drive. We're happy to recommend places if you like. There are some amazing places to hike, fish, mountain bike, and kayak nearby, including a state forest about 1 mile away. The closest public transportation is in Utica, which is about 25 minutes away. There are car services that can get you to and from the site, but you'll need a vehicle to get around locally. Please note that we have two adopted German Shepherds (Sadie and Blue) who are a little protective. They will bark at you, but they don't bite. Blue, the one with the pointy ears, might be open to sniffing you and letting you pet her, but Sadie probably won't. If you are uncomfortable with dogs, let me know before you arrive and we can make sure they are inside. We are not able to accommodate RVs or trailers. We have a very long, skinny driveway with limited parking. The camp site is not accessible by car. You'll have to park in the driveway and then bring your gear back to the site, which is about a 2 minute walk. All vehicles must be parked in the driveway. We do have a wagon if you need it to carry your gear. We have chickens on the property, including roosters who start crowing at sun up, and sheep who can get a little chatty. Plan on waking up with the sun. While the tent is very private and tucked into a large wooded area, you may see the neighbors house through the trees, it is about 1000' away. There is also a small country lane with very occasional car or 4-wheeler traffic at the bottom of the hill, about 1500' away.
