You can marvel at the hundreds of bird species including the endangered Red Knot as they stop to feed on Horse Shoe crab eggs on their way north. Most people thrill at the spectacle while others are a little horrified by the crab's primitive looks. They are completely harmless but can cause the water's edge to be a littered with their shells. Watch for the just hatched baby turtles headed to the Marvel Preserve just behind us in early summer. Slaughter Beach is surrounded by preserves to all three non water sides and Eagles can be seen nesting at the south end.
