This cosy flat is located in a small street of "Santa Catarina" neighborhood, a very peaceful area where you will feel rather as a local than as a tourist. Santa Catarina is one of the most emblematic lisbon neighborhoods in historical center that preserved original architecture. It's well known for the narrow streets, many desinated pedestrian-only, discouraging cars. Its central location and soul make this a much sought-after area for foreigners and Portugues alike. Two landmarks are most notable: the Mirador de Santa Catarina and Bica. The Mirador de Santa Catarina attracts a youngish, bohemian crowd that relaxes over drinks while admiring the river, from lunchtime until late morning on weekends. Cafes, trees and the view encourage all of us to stop and relax. A sculpture of the mythical giant of the Lusiads, Adamastor, stands here. Bica is a community within this community, primarily centered on the Rua da Bica Duarte Belo where the street is so steep that the famous Bica Funicular was built in 1892 to help residents transport water and goods. Crowds gather here, especially on weekends, filling the bars, spilling into the streets and sitting on steps to watch a parade of people with defined style. Actors, artists, executives, TV personalities; the retro-chic, avant-garde intellectuals, and connoisseurs of wines and cocktails...the mix attracts young adults to seniors. But in the day, laundry drying outside windows is a harbinger of what's to come as Bica retreats into its typical, ancient Lisbon neighborhood personality. Grocery stores and hair dressers open their doors, cafes serve elderly couples. The Mirador and Bica are striking axis points in "Santa Catarina", linked by the "Calçada do Combro" walkway. Day or night, diversity of people and liveliness mark this area Guest access Full house Registration Details 80399/AL
