SSTLL# MO-00207-F The space Unique,romantic and quiet! The Shepherds Retreat lies just a few miles outside the highest village in the Scottish Highlands, Tomintoul. Tomintoul sits at an altitude of 354m / 1160ft on the northern slopes of the Cairngorm Mountains and claims to be the highest village in the Highlands. Tomintoul is part of the Glenlivet Estate and offers a village store, some lovely restaurants ( the Fish and Chip van comes on a Tuesday too!), bars etc. Just ask for recommendations. We can usually arrange transport to local restaurants including the fabulous Croft Inn (at extra charge). Outdoor activities include Glenlivet Bike Tracks, Skiing at The Lecht, we’re close to the Speyside Way and of course, some fantastic Fishing too including both Salmon and Brown Trout on The Spey and Avon rivers. Royal Deeside and the Balmoral Estate can be easily reached, traveling through stunning mountain scenery and of course The Cairngorms is the UK’s largest National Park and home to unique animal and bird life! Whisky Galore! Just minutes from 2 of the most well known Scottish Malt Whisky Distilleries and on the Speyside Malt Whisky Trail, The Glenlivet and Glenfiddich but within easy distance of many more including : Balvenie, Glen Moray, Tomintoul, Glenfarclas, Benromach, Glen Grant, The Macallan, Aberlour, Ben Riach, Cardhu, Tamnavoulin... We’re happy to help you planning your Distillery Tour and have visited a few ourselves ... For the drivers, take away tasting sample packs are usually available. The Hut has a Double Bed, small Kitchenette area with Kettle, mini Fridge, Toast n Egg maker and sink, shower room and is fully equipped for 2. Tea, Coffee and Milk are supplied for you. TV and Internet is included although due to our off the beaten track location , cannot be guaranteed. Outside, there’s a seating area with views towards Ben Rinnes and the Conval Hills. Please be aware that we are about half a mile from the road up a track which is unpaved and uneven. Shouldn’t pose too much of a problem unless it Snows, just take it slowly if you’re not used to it. Other things to note As we are a little off the beaten track, access is up an uneven farm track which can be difficult in the Winter. We’ll do our best, but sometimes the Snow can prevent vehicles getting to us!
