Description

The fantastic nature of the Middle Rhine Valley begins right outside the door. On the quiet Rhine Trail, the apartment is a lovingly designed retreat for two to four people. From the glazed terrace door, the view of the roofs of the city and the wide valley opens up. The patio with views of the Rhine invites you to enjoy light, air and scenery. The Loreley open-air stage is also close. The apartment has a separate entrance and has only recently been extensively renovated. The space The apartment has a spacious and fully equipped kitchen, a luxurious retro bathroom in the 1920s "Adlon style," a bedroom with a double bed and a living room with lounge and sofa bed. The apartment is very suitable for up to 4 people. The apartment is accessed via a glazed entrance directly from the Rheinsteig hiking trail. The property dates back to the late Baroque period and was probably used as a roofing slate mine until 1869. The house is clearly visible on many old copperplate engravings and Rhine pictures, as it has been part of the wonderful city view of Kaub for centuries. For almost 150 years it was the home of the local druggist family, who almost completely modernized it in 2000. Thus, the house has gas central heating and double-glazed wooden windows. During the 2020 renovation, all walls were painted with elegant, ecologically harmless chalk paints from a regional manufacturer, which also produced the beautiful new terrazzo tiles in the bathroom. The old wooden floors were carefully sanded and sealed with environmentally friendly water-based paints. The seating furniture in the living room are design classics by Thonet, who founded his dynasty on the Middle Rhine, as well as by Mauser and Breuer. The bedroom was separated from the living room with generous glass wing doors. Frosted glass sliding doors let a soft light into the bedroom. Selected finds from the history of Kaub have been integrated into the kitchen, such as the chopping block or the butcher's hooks of the Bubinger butcher's shop, which has not existed for a long time. A brand new, large fridge in the 50s design blends into the overall picture. A highlight is certainly the Biedermeier crockery and herb cabinet with the original paint from 1850. The spacious kitchenette is covered with a heavy marble countertop from the local stonemason. Long, self-designed shelves provide ample storage for kitchen utensils. Guest access The key handover and key return takes place via the housekeeper or Dirk is on site himself. From the central customs office in Kaub, a path between "Hotel zum Turm" and the youth hostel leads upwards (about 25 m). On the Schlossweg (Rheinsteig) turn left and after about 25 m you will reach the house. On the corner of the house is a short staircase and you immediately see the glazed entrance door. Guests have the place to themselves. Other things to note Like many other rural communities in Europe, Kaub is struggling with a sharp decline in population. However, because of its scenic beauty, its historic walls and exciting history, it is a very attractive destination. For centuries, Kaub was a town for sailors, smugglers and miners. Today, the town lives mainly from tourism. The rental of vacation homes and houses is very welcome and brings economic strength directly to the residents, gastronomy and commerce. Kaub is looking forward to seeing its guests and is very attentive to them - you will quickly notice that! Although the city has only 800 inhabitants, it is very lively and communicative. Many neighbors are involved in the theater and linen festivals or in the carnival. The Rhinelanders love people: they are cosmopolitan and tolerant. Gays, lesbians and people of all skin colors and religions are welcome in Kaub! Please shop in Kaub: The place has an excellent selection with the grocery store "Tante Marion." The local winemakers and restaurants are also looking forward to your visit!
