Original Arts & Crafts 4 Bedroom House Whitby
Original Arts & Crafts 4 Bedroom House Whitby
Description
Wildthorn is an original Arts and Crafts house that has been in our family for the last 70 years and has recently undergone a 2 year restoration to a very high specification. As the house we spent Christmas's in as children, Wildthorn is a very special place to spend time and with excellent access to Whitby and the North Yorkshire Moors, you couldn't be better located for a superb break away. The space The house is an original arts and crafts house build in 1910 which has been renovated and modernised in recent years, yet all of its original features have been retained. Full of character, the house offers a large circular hallway with open fire with bench seating either side, a large well stocked kitchen/ diner with a ranger cooker, nespresso coffee machine and pretty much anything else you could possibly need, a dining room perfect for evening entertainment and a large and comfortable sitting room with wood burner. Upstairs the house enjoys a large circular landing overlooking the hallway downstairs with seating areas in nooks overlooking the views. It has 2 large king rooms, 1 double room and a twin room. There are 2 main bathrooms, one with large roll top bath. There are two separate loos - one upstairs and one downstairs. The two largest bedrooms are big enough to fit a family with young children and for that purpose we offer two additional floor mattresses and a cot (which is a collapsible port-a-cot) where required. There is a large but sloping garden with a large flat terrace area complete with tables, chairs and a BBQ for outdoor dining. The terrace enjoys spectacular views over the valley complete with distant passing steam trains. There is parking for at least 4 cars outside the house and an additional space outside the garage across the road. The house has fast wifi available throughout, Amazon Echos for music and a TV and DVD player. Although the house can accommodate 10 - 12 where there are children or young infants, it is not suitable for more than 8 adults. Guest access The entire property is at the guests disposal (with the exception of one cupboard off the kitchen and one cupboard outside bedroom 4). Check in is 4pm and check out by 10am. Whilst we try to be flexible where possible, these times cannot be changed where bookings are ‘back to back’. We thank you for your understanding. Other things to note CANCELLATION AND COVID 19 We recognise that times are currently uncertain. If you make a booking which you cannot fulfil due to temporary government restrictions related to the pandemic, we offer a full refund or you can reschedule your trip to a future date. LOCAL INFORMATION – Shopping The two closest supermarkets are Co-op and Sainsburys in Whitby, about 3 miles away. The easiest way to Whitby is to drive up Carr Hill Lane and turn right on to the main road at the top, and then right again at the small roundabout. Continue following signs to Whitby. Co-op This is smaller than Sainsburys but reasonably well stocked. To get to the co-op follow the signs to town centre/ train station. You will get to a small roundabout with the railway station on the right – turn right at the roundabout and the coop is on the right. There is a pay and display car park at the front and a much larger carpark to the rear. This is also useful parking for visiting Whitby. Sainsburys To get to Sainsburys drive toward Whitby. You will reach a 3 lane junction with traffic lights where you can turn left to head to the centre of town. Turn right at these lights. Keep straight, going over the estuary (with amazing views!). You will eventually see Sainsburys signposted on the left (around a 4 minute drive). This is a large supermarket where you can buy clothing and basic household goods as well as food. Local Shops - Sleights There is a Bothams bakery on the main road through Sleights (turn left at the top of Carr Hill Lane). This is a well known local bakers (they also have 2 shops in central Whitby). There is an excellent butcher/ deli, Radfords, which in addition to selling high quality meat also supply free range eggs, local cheeses, chutneys and condiments, jams and fresh vegetables and fruit. There is a 7/11 shop and post office also on the main road through Sleights.
