Welcome to a unique downtown Lexington rental experience...'The Garden Vault' at Olde Hurst Place. This formerly industrial space is complete with a high-end chef's kitchen, wine cooler, bourbon bar and stylistic features to excite even the most cultured of guests! Long stays are rewarded! Receive 15% off stays of 7+ nights and 20% off 29+ nights! Complimentary weekly housekeeping is also included for stays longer than a week. Rate discounts are factored into your online price quote. What is The Garden Vault? The building dates back to the 1920s and had many different lives, most notably as the business location for the Brinks Armored Car Company for 30 years. Upon purchasing the property in the 1970s, Brinks installed a 14’ by 14’ vault secured by a 12,000 lb. vault door which is still in place, as you can see in our photo slideshow (the vault, however, is located in the front office area of the building, not in the living space). In 2009, Rett’s Landscaping bought the property. Rett’s findings on his travels abroad to Europe and Asia resulted in the antique art pieces that are now housed in the vault. The property’s name is a result of the building’s rich history as home to these two businesses. Additional unique features include sliding barn doors sourced from historic Lexington farms, reclaimed lighting from decommissioned German and British ships, a bathtub and kitchen sink converted from ancient stone feed troughs, and operational fountains throughout the living space. It has all the comforts of home including Pottery Barn bedding and linens, WiFi and a fully equipped kitchen with All Clad cookware. The sleeper sofa is located off the kitchen near the dining area - the sofa in the living room with TV outside the bedrooms is not a sleeper. This space is perfect for events given the large amount of connectable indoor/outdoor space and the commercial grade appliances. There are place settings for 20 people and parking for up to 4 cars - 2 in the front open area of the building and 2 more inside the gated gravel area. The living space has WiFi and the TV has Roku for streaming programming including live channels. There is no traditional cable service but most all networks and their programs are accessible through the Roku. Come experience this authentic bit of culture in one of the most charming cities in the American south, Lexington, KY! *Small dogs are permitted with approval. $100 pet cleaning fee will apply plus $15 per day. You will have private access to the entire living space/apartment, which is 2,400 square feet. There are doors leading from the laundry room into the garage area which is a storage space for Rett's business. These doors lock from the inside so the apartment space is secured. While we sometimes refer to the living space as an 'apartment', it is all on the ground level and accessible from the outdoor gravel area with a private door. The Garden Vault is located in an industrial section of downtown Lexington. You are walking distance to restaurants, parks and other downtown attractions - Triangle Park, Rupp Arena, Gratz Park and Lexington's main downtown area where the Farmer's Market takes place are about half to 3/4 of a mile from the property. The office for Rett's Landscaping still occupies the front of the building. The middle section is a garage/storage area and the vault apartment is located at the back of the building. The door to get in is located behind the gate that encloses the gravel parking area, however the gate is not locked. The parking area and path to the door is gravel, which makes it a little difficult for rolling luggage and can be tough on footwear! For guests who are noise sensitive, it is worth noting this is a downtown location located right off main street so there is some "city noise". Also worth noting is that it is located in an industrial section of downtown, not a traditional residential neighborhood as the building is mixed use (part business, with the residence attached). If you would like to use Maps to look at the satellite view of the neighborhood, simply search "Olde Hurst Place Lexington, KY and you will be able to see the area". The bedrooms are side by side and enclosed only by unusual doors (as shown in photos) - one has two barn doors that close together and the other is enclosed by a fogged glass garage style roll down door. Only one of the bedrooms has a closet - the other has a dresser with drawers.
