This Lake Superior authentic 1957 cottage is what U.P. vacation dreams are made of! Kayak or canoe along the shoreline (262' of private shoreline) with the soaring eagles above you. Enjoy the water view from the screened front porch or a lakeside fire. Relax in the authentic wood burning Finnish sauna after a day of outdoor fun. For cold nights there is an indoor wood burning fireplace. Each bedroom has a new foam mattress, pillows & bedding for a truly peaceful rest. The space The following information is for the short term rentals only: The cottage is located on a 4 seasons road that is plowed during the winter. The driveway entrance to the cottage will be plowed before your arrival for parking. Extra plowing requests will require a $25 fee to pay the snow plow. There is a shovel provided if needed. Upper Peninsula weather can be unpredictable. No refunds will be given for any weather events. There are 2 bedrooms inside the main cottage. One with a full bed and the other with a queen bed. Behind the house is a small bedroom cottage with a full size bed. There is heat, a closet and a fan in the small cottage. (This small bedroom cottage will not be available during the winter months when there is snow on the ground.) There is not a separate bathroom. The main cottage bathroom is available or if you are adventurous there is a 3 seat outhouse steps away. The garage is not accessible for guests. A mini split AC unit is on a dining room wall which will cool the main room in the house which includes the dining room, living room and open kitchen. Please turn off the AC in the evening when the cool breezes will cool the house. The fireplace in the living room will warm the rooms on those cooler nights also. Do not go to sleep with the fireplace still burning. The large grassy yard will be perfect for playing wiffleball, volleyball, croquet or whatever games you prefer. Please bring your own kayaks and canoes, as we do not currently have any for use. We have 2 child and 2 adult life vests for your safety around the water. Lake Superior can quickly change from calm to very rough so please be alert and careful. There is absolutely no diving or jumping from the dock. The water is very shallow and only about 4 feet deep at the end of the dock. We are on a septic system. Please do not flush anything except toilet paper down the toilet. No feminine products, wipes of any kind, hair, paper towels, etc. If it is raining for an extended period of time, or really hard, please wait until the rain subsides for a few hours to use the washing machine. We are at the bottom of a hill and the drains can get overwhelmed with the amount of water coming down the hill in addition to the rain itself. SAUNA It is not recommended for young children or people with certain health conditions (check with your doctor) to use the sauna. USE AT YOUR OWN RISK. The sauna has a wood burning stove. It will take a couple of hours to get it hot. Keep the vent in the front of the stove open to get it going and then slowly close most of the vent as the fire gets hot. If you are not accustomed to using saunas, I recommend you do not heat to more than 120 F. There are buckets to put water in and a ladle to throw water on the rocks for steam. When you get too hot, sit out in the changing room to cool down and then go back in for some more heat. Close the vent completely and make sure the fires is going to go out when you are finished. *************** We have wood available for purchase at the cottage, or you can carry in your own ********************** The month of April will be available for last minute reservations only depending upon the weather. Rapid snow melt and simultaneous torrential rains are unpredictable. There is not trash pickup available to this location. Please take out all of the food you brought in when you leave. Guest access The garage will not be accessible to guests and the smaller bedroom cottage will not be available during the winter months when there will be snow on the ground due to the drifting snow. Other things to note The sauna is restricted to children over the age of 8 and adults due to a burn hazard by touching the hot sauna stove. If you use the sauna it is at your own risk. ****The only shower is inside of the sauna which is right off of the bathroom and has excellent water pressure.**** We recently installed new hardwood floors. Please no wet feet or bathing suits. The cottage has 262' of private shoreline and a private concrete dock. There is easy access to the water so children need to be monitored closely. The third bedroom in the guest cottage will not be available during the cold winter months. All beds will have goose down comforters on them and there is heat in all of the rooms. Please bring in your own wood. We also have wood available for purchase if you prefer.
