Lake Waikaremoana - Tuai Cottage
Description
Welcome to Tuai Cottage. Our home is one of the original Public Works houses in Tuai that provided accommodation to staff working at the Power Station. Although it has been modernised a bit, we have tried to retain the original feel of the house. Although part of the village, you can sit on the deck, look out over our garden and feel you are well located on the edge of the forest. The space Opposite Tuai Suite, this cosy little cottage has a bedroom available for guests which contains a queen bed. For an additional fee, it may be possible to use a second bedroom that contains a single bed (+trundler). You would share the bathroom and kitchen with us. Locked car park. Vege & native plant garden. Deck overlooking bush and lake. Guest access You will have your own room and will share the bathroom and all other common areas with your hosts. During your stay You can be as private or as social as you wish. Other things to note PLEASE READ CAREFULLY: We just want to be sure that international visitors in particular know that we live in a very beautiful but very isolated place. Apart from a small shop at the Lake Waikaremoana Holiday Park and a cafe/store in Ruatahuna (usually open till 3pm on Tuesday to Saturday), there is nowhere to buy a coffee or a snack. There is limited cell phone coverage between Murupara and Wairoa. Make sure you top up your petrol tank and bring your own food (apart from breakfast). You are very welcome to use our kitchen and our bbq. We will provide a light breakfast of cereals, bread, spreads, tea, coffee and hot chocolate. If you are driving from Rotorua, you should allow up to 4 hours. Also - if this is your first trip through Te Urewera - please try to drive during the day. We generally meet less than 20 cars in the 2 hours of UNSEALED, GRAVEL roads, so finding help if you break down or there is a slip, is likely to be problematic!! IF YOU ARE AN OVERSEAS VISITOR, and if you are from a visa waiver country, you must hold an NZeTA before you travel. Those of you who intend walking the Great Walk are welcome to leave any valuables with us and pick them up when you return.
