Description

A ground floor apartment in a converted barn beside the old teacher's residence in Fanore, a small coastal village in the heart of the Burren's karst landscape. Situated below the 'Burren Way' walking route and looking out to the Atlantic & Aran islands. Please read the full description before making a reservation request and if you have any questions we would be happy to answer them. The space The apartment was designed to maximise the feeling of space, to highlight the lovely and ever changing light and to take advantage it's beautiful surroundings. This open plan studio is a simple uncluttered space in the heart of the Burren, on the Wild Atlantic Way, 10 minutes walk from the main Beach via a track to the shore (or 15 minutes via an alternate route) and just 2km from the Burren Way walking route. The thick walls and large windows emphasise the feeling of being inside in a clear space and looking out on the Atlantic on one side, Black Head on another and up onto the green slopes of Slieve Elva on another. The main space is furnished with genuine antique Irish pieces e.g. the press bed with a choice of either feather mattress or 100% cotton futons dressed with pure linen and pure cotton sheets. There is also a futon couch which can be used as a second double bed. The apartment is unusual and some of the arrangements have put the aesthetic ahead of convenience e.g. in the bathroom the sink is a steel bowl on a limestone pedestal (one empties the sink on to the shower drain). To continue the simple theme the taps are just curved copper pipes. Also the slope in the limestone tiled wet room floor is not as good as it should be and one needs to use the french tub or mop after showering to avoid too much of a spread of water. Heating is provided by either oil fired central heating or, if one wants to stay in the old world atmosphere, a cast iron turf and wood burning stove. The land around the studio is a mix of organically cultivated vegetable plots (guests are welcome to some vegetables in season) and wild grass where there is a constant struggle between the wild flowers and the briars. A note on the internet: the wi-fi can be slow at times and if you need to stream movies and the like that's rarely possible at high quality unless one can let them load a little before viewing. Guest access Access to the entire space: Main room, kitchen, bathroom and garden.
