Access to the Fajã de Santo Cristo can only be done on foot or by motorcycle 4, along a trail with stunning landscapes of about 4 km. There are currently 2 restaurants and no supermarket! Grocery shopping has to be done in the nearest villages!! The space The Fajã da Caldeira de Santo Cristo, like the fajã dos Cubres, is a flat area that resulted from slope mass movements, deposited at the base of abrupt cliffs, during the earthquake of July 9, 1757. The Fajã da Caldeira de Santo Cristo is possibly one of the most beautiful and undoubtedly the most famous fajã on the island of São Jorge. In 1984, it was classified as a Nature Reserve by the Regional Government of the Azores, especially because of the existence of clams in its lagoon. It was later classified as a site of international importance under the Ramsar Convention (the Convention on Wetlands of International Importance), on Wetlands of International Importance as a Waterfowl Habitat, thanks to its lagoon. Recently, the fajãs of S. Jorge were classified by UNESCO as a Biosphere Reserve. Access to the Fajã da Caldeira de Santo Cristo is not easy, with about 4 km, however it allows the contemplation of stunning landscapes through its PEDESTRIAN access route, known as the Percurso das Fajãs. The beautiful Church of Santo Cristo, of this fajã, whose patron is the Lord Holy Christ, was blessed on November 10, 1835. Since then it has become a place of worship where devotees from all over the island go. Guest access Guests have access to the entire house and yard. They do not have access to the small outdoor storage room. Guests are responsible for their own transportation by motorcycle 4.
