To see the placemark on a map, search for "C3VQ+9W Mourilyan" The space This property has been family owned since the 1950's when the Etty Bay road was unsealed and the Surf Life Saving Club was a tin shed. The present house was very solidly built in concrete by an Austrian builder in the 1970's with a compact residence upstairs and a comprehensive working craft pottery downstairs. The house is about 15 metres above sea level and is close enough to the water to hear the ocean waves and sometimes see dolphins and turtles. More recently, the Old Pottery was sensitively refurbished as independent accommodation to a high standard. Historical photos, some more detailed history, and a selection of Jean Markwell's pots are on display in the dining area. The Old Pottery kitchen is very well equipped, and general comfort and other facilities are suitable for medium term visits by family members or guests. There is exclusive use of the double carport which has headroom for loaded roof racks. Car parking spaces and upstairs/downstairs apartment entrances are independent. There is space for parking a trailer boat up to 6.5 metres in length in front of the boat shed where there is also a hose point. There is an outdoor shower adjacent to the carport. Airbnb rentals are on the basis of the Old Pottery apartment at the indicated tariff. On occasion, family members may be staying in the upstairs residence but more often than not, guests are on their own. If any family are staying, we will let you know in advance. It would be nice to meet up. It may be possible to rent the entire house by special arrangement. The residence upstairs is only partially refurbished and still has some original 1970's 'features'. We do not rent to more than one party/group at-a-time. Please note that Etty Bay has been declared a glass and dog free zone by the local council. Cassowaries roam the area and one visits the house on most days. Other local wildlife includes, frogs, goanna, wallaby, skinks, numerous butterflies, birds, and insects, gekkos, ecidna etc. Nightlife includes micro bats, Curloos, moths (Atlas Moth sometimes), and small tropical rainforest mammals such as Bandicoots... The attractive Etty Bay main beach is well sheltered compared to the average Queensland beach, and boasts shady trees right up to the high water mark. A stinger net enclosure for safe swimming is set up on a seasonal basis. Etty Bay is a popular weekend outing for locals. Guest access The Old Pottery occupies the ground floor. Covered carport parking for two cars is provided and there is room for a trailer boat. Keys are kept in a key-safe and access instructions are provided. Other things to note Self catering its anticipated as Etty Bay only has a kiosk. The nearest restaurants are at Innisfail, a 15 to 20 minute drive away. If you plan on arriving via Cairns on a weekend, there are some good options such as Rusty's Market for stocking up. Sleeping arrangements sometimes need to be advised ahead so we can set the beds up; e.g. we can set up the baby cot or have a mattress on the floor for small children. Linen is changed weekly. There is enough room in the yard to park a boat on trailer and the carport is high enough for roof racks with luggage on top. There is an outdoor shower near the carport for washing off salt and sand; beach towels are provided. Unless your feet are tough sandals or thongs will be needed for the walk to the beach.
