Old House - The Old Farm-House

Gamla húsið is in Kirkjuferjuhjaleiga horse-farm, located in the south of Iceland, 35km -from Reykjavík in Ölfus and 3min. drive off Route 1. Perfect as either the starting point for an exploration of southern Iceland or as a base since it is close to the Golden Circle and a few hours drive to the glaciers and black sands of the south. Kirkjuferjuhjaleiga is a horse farm, on the banks of the salmon-rich Ölfusá river surrounded by beautiful landscape. The space Gamla húsið or 'the old farmhouse' was built in the 1930's as the original main farmhouse, it has been lovingly restored over the past 5 years. We want you to be as comfortable as possible during your stay with us and offer fully equipped kitchen with some contribution from our chickens. If the weather gods smile upon us during your stay, you can relax outside on our new deck, furnished with a table and chairs. It's important to get a good nights rest when travelling so we have tried to make the beds as comfortable as possible with down duvets and pillows as well as luxurious bed linens. We recently renovated the bathroom. It has a nice tub to rest those tired bones in and a cupboard filled with fluffy towels. The bathroom also has a washing machine at your disposal. Guest access The guesthouse is all yours during your stay and we are more than happy to show you around our stables and introduce you to our horses if you would like. If you are guests are interested, we can offer them to take an 30 min hike down to the river, and to bring along fishing-gear we can rent to them, to test their luck fishing for Salmon or Trout. For those interested in horses, Trausti can offer a presentation on the Icelandic horse, doing a 30 min clinic on the oval´track by the stable, with explanations through a loudspeaker.
